Post by: Ken T on 19 December 2010, 13:12:21

Not sure I like the idea that its had 2 catastrophic failures in its life time...

The only catastrophic failure associated with the TSR2 was to allow such an incompetant government have any control what so ever over its development.

The plane had an uphill struggle all the way, new unproven engine and new airframe, a no-no in sensible aircraft development, a whole mass of requirements that pushed technology boundaries beyond what was currently possible.

However it overcame almost all the obstacles and was flying pretty well, when the hatchet men cancelled it. Anyone figured out why they destroyed all the plans, data, WIP in such a hurry ?.
