Ok, you`ve all read about my driveway and the snow.....yada-yada! ::)
So, I thought I`d show you on video what it`s really like......after several hours of shoveling it`s passable again.
I`ve found that it`s better/easier to shovel the snow before it gets compacted by sheep-feet or vehicles.
I cleared two snow-shovel width channels for the wheels for the full length of the driveway (450 metres long & rising 56 metres from end-to-end), mainly so I could see where the firm/safe track is, for it`s amazingly easy to get blinded by the uniform-whiteness of deep snow under grey skies and the ground each side the the rock surfaced track is soft and boggy.
Anyway....were in the Disco; there`s Pat Metheny on the radio and the heater`s on, so enjoy the trip..... ;)

I'm impressed! :y I cleared my 20' long drive and the pavement infront of my house & I was knackered! ;D ;D
-
In some ways I'm deepy envious of the tranquility and picturesque location... ...but don't envy the work involved!
I'm knackered after clearing drive, and moving snow away from house (it was above damp course, which concerned me)
-
well done debs makes me feel lazy as cant be arsed just to do my double drive :y :y
-
Great video Debs, how are the yokels round them parts then? Coping well?

I grew up in a similar situation, cows and sheep were my only neighbours and every minute of daylight was spent outside doing stuff that kids do.

I also would like to say thank you to the kind OOF`ers whom PM`d me with words of encouragement, when my spirits 'flagged' after the heaviest of the recent snowfalls......thanks guys; it really helped. :y
-
My admiration knows no bounds Debs! You truly are Wonderwoman :D :-* :y

is there a reason for the wipers being away from the screen? :-/

I cleared two snow-shovel width channels for the wheels for the full length of the driveway (450 metres long & rising 56 metres from end-to-end),
:o
And here's me, I can't even be bothered to go out in the cold and brush the snow off the car! :D

is there a reason for the wipers being away from the screen? :-/
With temps at -14C. they`d have frozen to the screen last night!....I always lift them off the screens when it gets REALLY cold; just didn`t need them today so left them off. :y

I thought you were using them as some sort of targetting system for the tracks you'd made.. ;D

I had considered something similar, but the (relatively) low traffic on the drive would mean that grit might not be mushed enough to work at our mountain`s low-temps. :-/

Just to let you know Deb, there's more snow on the way, you've just wasted your time...
...but I enjoyed the video anyway, tremendously jealous of your location

I think Debs has trained her doggies to clear the snow ;D
I did some dog training with Holly this afternoon.....
catching the snowball in her mouth.....she couldnt work out where it went to when she caught it ;D
Next came chasing the snowball.....she chased after it....but again wondered where it had gone to when she caught up with it ;D
She failed miserably at the snow ball fight......i had loads of direct hits....she failed to throw a single one back ::) ;D

My Collies can get their revenge; for, buried in the snow there are some frozen 'gifts' to despoil the unwary snowball maker`s hands! ;D

It would (of course), but the rocky-track over the fields is narrow (barely the width of the vehicle) and the ground (underneath the snow) on each side is terribly 'boggy'; so, without identifying the exact route by clearing, she`d be in up to her diffs. ;)
...ask me how I know! :-[
-
Is the log cabin or the Gate lodge to Debs Towers for sale? I'd sell up & buy it along with a 4x4 & a shovel, we could meet halfway with hot flasks & tupperware offerings!!!
My only concern is:- Do Collies get on with Spaniels? If i lived the rural life again i'd be surrounded by them daft as they are! :y

It`s good exercise; I am 50 and I do feel every one of those years at times, but mostly when I`ve finished the work.....TBH, there`s a fair bit of psychology in it; if I 'think' about the magnitude of it, my strength/will tangibly falters....but there`s no-one to help me, so if I don`t do the job, it simply doesn`t get done.
My nephews are in their early 20`s and they`re 'done' after a mere 5 mins. on a shovel; `kids eh! ;D

know exactly what your saying Debs, thing is they look at it as a nasty job to be done then say they cant do it?
me I look on something like that as a personal challenge and wont be beaten, words like oh i will just do another ten feet, or its a quarter done now instead of oh i still have threetimes as much again to do, just keep plodding on and before you know it your there!!
and the sheer sense of beating the odds is great!!!
Am i wierd? lol
-
How long is that drive :o :o
Last dumping of snow back home, i was nackered shifting snow off our drive which is a postage stamp compared to that.
Impressive work Debs! :y
-
Thanks Debs.... brings back many happy memories of my farming days.... By fod I would give my right arm to have that lifestyle again...... even with all that snow clearing :y
-
Wow, what a fantastic place to live. Worth every bit of shovelling I guess...?
Easy sitting here in the suburbs moaning the council haven't gritted our 500 yards long cull de sac, as some of our neighbours are.
As Tb says though wonderful location, balanced by the odd survival challenge. Resourceful as you are, I'm guessing you love it all, under the tedium of a shovel of course. :y
-
Debs, that's a very impressive feat. In case fresh snowfall does undo your hard work why don't you drive some marker stakes into the boggy ground along one side to avoid all that hard work again.
I'm hobbling round on crutches after a long delayed hip replacement so can't even attempt to clear my 30 feet of driveway. Let me know if you fancy some more excercise. ::)
Bill.

Wilco, Bill........That`s a very good idea and I`ve also got some orange-flourescent paint, to daub the tops of the stakes. :y
Keep warm and safe, Bill.....take care and heal well. ;)

It will be the collie version of the A66, and I'm sure they will find a use for the poles in summer too. ;D
