There will be a strike next Thursday, that's my rest day, so this one won't make any difference to the time spent here.  ;)
I know it makes us look greedy grabbing workers, but there's been a loads of incidences of p poor managing etc that has resulted in this action. It's not as though Heinz is struggling.

If I can't get the product I usually buy, I try a different, cheaper, one. I sometimes stick with that product if it's not much different. So the arguement that Christmas stocks will be affected is, once again, suicide. ;D

PS. I can't think of one heinz product I would use over Christmas. :-/

 :( :( http://www.foodbev.com/news/1200-heinz-workers-will-strike-for-24-hours

the media just seems to say we're rejecting the 3.3% pay offer, but generally people are more miffed about the management continually meddling with the bonus and linking sick (Bradford points) to the bonus .......
I have to say I was not one of the 95%  ::) ::)

If you were running the show and had a choice between strikes and cheap foreign labour.. which would you pick? ;)

if I was running the show there's loads I'd do. Clear a couple of layers of management for a start, buy from local suppliers instead of buying from the big boys like BSL etc who all add a massive percentage to the cost of parts. Put parts in stores that we actually want and f***
Eriks (http://www.eriks.co.uk/) off from the site & buy directly ..... but that might mean that the stores managers might have to ............. er ............. manage!
Whether a workforce strikes or not won't deter companies from moving abroad, Cadbury bought Hall's Mentholyptus and shifted production to Turkey & Canada within a year of buying it. The B all & end all of big companies is the share holder & f*** the workforce.

Sorry Andy, didn't mean to set you off quite like that  :-X

I realise there's sometimes a good reason behind a strike (although I'm jealous - if I go on strike I get fired, no unions for me   ;D ) - anyway.. as you were..

Andy, Re reading your posts about what the strike is about and its the same at our place as managers try to keep their budgets in order, so the share holders /upper management get their bonus for keeping cost down

;D ;D  Sorry, I didn't intend to appear to go off on one  ;), as said before, I actually voted against strike action, but I was one of 10%.
There's no such thing as no union for you, everybody is entitled to join one.

Best of luck Andy... Local media branded us at the docks lazy when we threatened to strike over our pay review of 1.5%, neglecting to mention that we had taken an unnecessary 5% cut the year before!

4 seperate strike days means we're anything but full of beans, especially in the big warehouse next door. 3 weeks is to cover scheduled overhauls that have been put on hold.

There have been pay rises on a personal level at our place. But we have not had a group rise got 3 years. It's bull shit, we are well in profit. But the fact is they could close the place and be running again elsewhere in europe within a week, and everybody knows it.

What really doesn't help is an arrogant management style. We have a very experienced work fource, and close to incompetent management and structure. The waist levels and ongoing supply issues are astonishing. Yet the staff have to cover it with cut backs, banked hours, restrictive holiday periods, blah blah.

Needless to say, I am not a fan of shareholder ownership. Those very same cut backs are restricting the profits they want, it's madness.

Strikes and union involvement are probably going to set us on the slippery slope tbh.
