Title: Bye Bye Omega
Post by: Road Hog Mad on 23 January 2011, 11:09:08
The time came a few nights ago, when my Omega was driven away by its new owner.  :'(

I owned the car for nearly 3 years and I have to say that it is one of the best cars I have ever owned, If I win the lottery or have a job at BP petrol station I would certainty own another, probably the 3.2 V6 Estate.  :y

Such a brilliant car had to go due to and purely to the running costs. I worked out that I was spending £9,000 a year to run the car.

No car is worth that much to run in my books, especially being a new Dad.

My new car is a Rover 400 Diesel which does 40MPG around town and 65MPG on the motorway and that to me is brilliant. 3rd class driving is better than 1st class walking and I do miss what a huge car the Omega was lol.

A massive thank you to all of the guides and help from the forum members on here too, no doubt you have saved me hundreds of pounds, a good bye to the Omega but no to Omega forums, I will still pop in and offer help if I can.

Bye bye Omega!  :'( :'( :'(

Bye-bye!......but, don`t feel bad; very few of us could ever afford spend £9,000 a year to run an older car. :o

My wife costs less than that, a lot less.

Financial sense must prevail even though it can get in the way of our desires RHM.

At least you've got yourself sorted out with something more suitable and will continue to call in on the Forum to see how things are going.  Happy days. 8-) :y

Must admit (even though I had only driven her for less than half the time I owned her) I missed my omega when she went (to add insult to injury I still see her on the road as she went locally). But, although the "new to me" skip is a far inferior car, 50-odd to the gallon of diesel (town driving), £90 less insurance and £90 road tax per year, kind of eases the pain!!!

You must be driving a fair few miles a year to cost 9 grand.

All town driving and the best I could get was 17 to the gallon, even driving like the manager of mattress company.

Motorway was brill, 55mph on cruise would get 38 to the gallon, the best I ever had was 44 to the gallon, manchester to blackpool.

I worked out £9K at, £600 insurance, £200 road tax, about £400 servicing and the rest in fuel.

I feel your pain :(

Even running on LPG it is costing 6k for me per year. Petrol would be 7.7k. This is without parts or anything else (I don't want to work out it.... seriously). With the combined cost of running an older car for parts, mine shall shortly be joining yours :( I've had to go diesel and I hate diesels.

emotions can be dangerous when decisons are made.  Don't worry, some things are only temporary. :y :y :y :y

For me, 35k /yr and then personal on top (not sure of that amount). I imagine Road Hog was doing similar miles. Mine sits there on cruise on the motorway ticking over 95% of the time.
