I have been dismantling and parting out my old Series III Landy.....due to healthy demand for parts, there`s just the chassis rails left now; which I simply intend to weigh-in.
Now, at the moment the vehicle is on a SORN.....but on the V5 there`s no 'scrapped' part to complete (odd, as I thought there was one) :o
How does one notify the DVLA that vehicle is no longer about; but hasn`t been through an 'official' dismantler/breaker? :-/
-
i would just send the v5 along with a covering letter to dvla and ask in the letter for proof/reciept of the v5 and letter
-
All the DVLA paperwork just says 'or you must notify the DVLA' - but doesn't seem to tell you how, anywhere..
From the 'new' red V5:
Scrapping your vehicle
You cannot use the V5C to tell us you have scrapped your vehicle.
You should take the vehicle to an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) and they should issue a Certificate of Destruction (CoD). If you do not receive a CoD immediately please fill in section 9 of the V5C and send to DVLA.
If you have broken up the vehicle yourself, you must either tax it or tell us you are keeping it off the public road by making a SORN, until you take it to an ATF or tell us you no longer have it.
More information is available on our website
www.diredgov.uk/atf
From leaflet INS160:
What to do if you want to scrap your vehicle
• You should take it to an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) who will make sure that it is dismantled in an environmentally friendly way. The ATF should give you a Certificate of Destruction (CoD). If you do not receive the CoD immediately you must fill in section 9 (V5C3) of the V5C Registration Certificate and send to DVLA. You can get details of your nearest ATF from the Environment Agency.

• If you have passed the vehicle on to a scrapyard or an insurer to be scrapped, follow the procedures explained in section 9 (V5C3).
They seem to imply heavily that the only way you can get rid of it is to take it to an ATF..
-
I seem to remember the procedure changed recently, and got much more complicated. Im sure someone will know the ins and outs. :-/
edit - someone did know the ins and outs and already posted them. must try to move beyond single digit typing. ::) :D
-
with the new rules i think there are only 2 ways round this.
1 if you cant take it to a atf keep sorning it[its free]
2 sell it to someone who lives in the block of flalts thats been boarded up for 10 years, you send of the v5 to dvla they send you notification that you not the owner no more job done.

Weigh in at an ATF :y

That's the way I read it.
Whether the ATF would be prepared to issue the relevant paperwork on production of the chassis (or what's left of it) is another question.

Isn't there an on line option @ the DVLA site?
Rust in pieces LAZ!! :( :'(

read somewhere the metal recyclers wont accept motors with out some paperwork (to stop the trend which occurred last time the price peaked where they were stealing old knackers off the streets and weighing them in)
see if i can find the detail

EASY just fill in the exported section, you sold it to a pole whose name you cant spell(make one up) and its gone from the database :y
-
You could book it in for a test at your nearest VOSA (sorry to swear) station. They are obliged to test cars as well as trucks & are very srict. Just load what's left into the pup mobile or the Disco. It's fail so badly they will insist it stays at said testing station until such time it is deemed roadworthy.
Job done! :y

:y Yes, as a matter of fact, it was collected and trailered away, just moments ago by a Landy enthusiast from Poland. ;)
"Notification of Permanent Export"....section 11 (V5C/4W) has been signed and dated appropriately! 8-)

Other option would be a quiet word in your tame scrappy's ear :y :y

Surely some guy called Cameron from london bought it as a restoration project? can't quite remeber the address though. ::)

on the left page section 6 subsection 16 tick the scrapped box put in a date in sub section 18
sign and date register keepers part in section 8
send off
you will get a letter from DVLA stating that the vehicle has been scrapped and you are no longer liable

Nope - the scrapped section is gone on red V5s, no box to tick and no bit to put a date in..
-
I was told by the scrapyard bloke when I was there last week that the new V5C (red one) doesn't have a scrapped section because its only proper scrapyards that can declare a car as scrapped now :(
-
should do

Yup.. my new red V5s are missing the section, the older blue one I had before changing the address on the MR2 had the section.. tis gone, alas, tis no more.
-
The instructions for the "new" V5C still, under the "scrapping" section, still include the words "until you tell us" ... so AFAIK .... all you have to do is tell them, in writing...... :)
Seems like a simple letter will do .... :)
and from the DVLA website .. same message / different words ..
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/ChangesToYourRegistrationCertificate/DG_4022057
"If you have broken up the vehicle yourself, you must either continue to tax it or tell the DVLA that you are keeping it off the public road. You can do this by making a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification). You will need to make a SORN every year until you have taken it to an ATF, or told DVLA that you longer have it."

It's gone the same way as poor old Lazarus, I fear. :(

Yes, I think that could have been worded better.
In the context of this proviso;
You must take your vehicle to an authorised treatment facility (ATF) if it needs to be scrapped.
it seems that there is little room for DIY scrapping and where the words or told DVLA that you longer have it are concerned I would imagine if the DVA were informed that a registered keeper no longer had the vehicle they (DVA) would seek details of the new keeper.
Should they then be informed that there was no new keeper due to the vehicle being scrapped they would then require an ATF certificate to finalise the former keeper’s interest in it and responsibility for it.
-
Well, if you can not scrap it then there is only one alternative, Mini owners and Landrover owners, and no doubt other older car owners have been doing it for years.... There was a right old trade in the 70's from an army base in North Yorks... ::) ::) You have a log book........ :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X

Pretty sure your right, all to do with the the chassis needing to be destroyed by an approved agent to stop cloning and ringing
