Post by: Jimbob on 06 February 2011, 12:13:36
I finally got myself a new phone, of the android variety.

Ive had a browse of the available apps, but theres one hell of a lot out there.

sky news
rac traffic
a torch

for starters, along with all the preloaded stuff.

What good apps have you found?

Angry Birds ----  damnded adictive .. :(
Batterylife -
cricket - Aus/England scores live :)
compass
bubble - spirit level
FxCamera .. do some really clever things with the camera
TuneIn Radio - FM Radio reciever
Apps2SD - back up downloaded apps to the card

Lookout - perhaps the most important one. enables you to "track" your phone should it get nicked, set a high pitched alarm off, to wipe all important data, and finally .. should you wish .. you can turn it into a "brick" .. makes it useless to the thief. Also allows full backups and includes an antivirus. My son had is phone nicked and we did all the above .. tracked it, wiped it, then bricked it. he got a repalcement .. loged into the site and the backup went on in less than 2 minutes and workd perfecetly.

In fact, if there was one for the gayPhone...  ...not that crApple would ever allow it. Mind you, I would jailbreak for such childish/boyish/purile entertainment ;D

Jimbob doesn't need one... He has his own, much more effective whoopee cushion ::) ::) ::)

Must admit, I'd have it too though :D :D :D

Be warned Jimbob, Angry Birds is highly addictive... Oh, and for iPhone users (don't know about Android) there was another Angry Birds update today with 15(?) more levels :y :y

How are you getting on with the new Windows Mobile? It was an option when I upgraded but after my previous experience with Windows Mobile (highly unstable) I wasn't willing to sign up for 2 years on the offchance they had managed to sort it ::)

I'm still on the clunky old 6.5, chopped about, overclocked and looking very little like the original. Not sure about 7 yet, seems to me they took loads out to make a windows iphone tbh.
That link was for the windows PC version of the game.

'Juice Defender' is a must have battery life extender.

'Advanced Task Killer'.  Shuts down apps that continue to run, using up the battery, in the background

'Flashlight' allows you to use the camera LED flash as a torch. (Suprisingly low battery consumption when on)

'SlideIt' keyboard. Much easier and quickest way of typing (Even I'm quick typing with it. ::))

'3G Watchdog' allows you to set your data use to within your allowance.

'Lookout' anti-virus.

'Call Confirm' eliminates the risk of calling someone in your phone book by mistake. (Only needed if you have a touch screen phone).
