Top Gear's 'Cheap Car Challenge' :y ;)
-
yeah, I wondered that too at the time - it was an old Volvo estate wasnt it? :o
-
volvo saloon i think, the one he crashed into a wall and broke his thumb iirc
-
that was when you had to pay scrap yards to scrap your car
this was when the ELV was brought in

When i worked for peugeot / citroen we would often 'stand cars in' as £1 even though we may have given the customer a few hundred quid for their part ex, Because there is nornally enough profit in the car we sold to write off that amount and still show a sensible profit amount.
Reason being......
Then when we sent the cars to auction or sold them to trade our Trade account always shows a Profit as well as our new and used sales as we were targeted on all 3.

so excluding part exchange is there any where now i can pick up a car for a quid (or below 100????
would love to get one for a week and murder it hahahaha
btw, yeah it was a volvo salloon. 416 GLE - it actually was sound. hahaha

A few years ago I bought my brother's Punto Sporting off him for £5.
He was going to Afganistan and could not be bothered to sell it as it had "issues". It was a 98 R in bronze with 76,000 miles. I had it for 3 months while I fixed it up to what was a nice little car. I am a marine engineer so went back to sea 3 months later and sold it for £570 (didn't tell him that for a while and then I owed him a pint or two!!). I still see it running around nowadays, which I think is pretty cool.
-
hahaha nice one! not so nice you sold it for 3 million percent profit though ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
sorry it was the 760 gle.
My dad used to have one of those. Not an easy car to kill. ;D

To me it is any car that is given away and can be worked on cheaply, with parts from the scrappy, to keep going for at least a year. :D :D :D :D :D ;)

We used to do the same at Vauxhall as well, (Hartwells). Took some explaining to customers, especially the thicko ones who couldn't get their head around the balance to change figures staying the same.

Can you still get them?
-
Probably not sadly. They made me redundant after 7 years and i parted company after some very harsh words. Havent been it touch with them since.
Been out of the motor trade for 2 and a bit years.
It was always a buzz getting a cheap car, using it then selling it for a profit. Those were the days ;D
