annoying things include:
its so expensive
the bread, oh my god, the bread. its so hard and sharp im surprised i dont need stitches in my gums!!!! >:(
their cars; i really think its great they support their own car companies by mainly buying french cars but for crying out loud all their cars are god awful... and these cars come from a nation supposedly teeming with style!!!
glad to be back :y :y :y :y

I go there every two years or so (my brother lives there), and the prices are awful.
5 Euros for a coffe with milk >:(
And also french cuisine, bloody hell I have no idea why it is so popular.
I was hungry every time after I ate in a restaurant ;D
But a charming city that is for sure

hahaha i know. most of the food is grim!!!!

mathewst, I advice you to try London.. cheapest price I pay was 10£ for a small glass of beer and a small piece of chicken (in a small Greek restaurant).. and when I tried a Turkish Kebap restaurant we paid 150£ for 4 persons >:( >:(

Yep Webby, and when you order "steak" I found you ended up with horse!! :o :o :o :o :D :D
Eating in Belgium is much better in my opinion :y :y

One night my brother and I ordered a beefsteak
When the waiter came and put the plate in front of me I looked at it and asked what the hell is that on the plate
the waiter said "beefsteak"
Either french cows are a size of a chicken >:( or I'm just used to a normal portions here

I was there last year for a friends 40th (he's from Paris, hence the location) and I didn't find the prices too bad or the portions small; but then we didn't eat in touristy places I suppose, seeing as I had local knowledge with me. I think it cost €20 for a big portion of whatever it was with chips and a couple of glasses of wine for lunch.
What I didn't enjoy was the 300,000 protestors I ran into on the 5Km walk back to the hotel.. I'm not a people person at the best of times so a massive crowd like that sent me scurrying - I spent the rest of the time in my hotel room after that :-[

You Bourgeoisie, or perhaps you are even worse- Aristocracy!!! :o :o :o :o :o Your Hotel wasn't the Versailles Palace by any chance? :o :o :o :o
That type of thing, not mixing with the masses, once started a revolution! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
-
;D ;D No it was the cheapest little place I could find that wasn't in a red light district.. hence the 5km walk back from the city center ;)
I just hate crowds at the best of times - going shopping for me is a nightmare.. so a few hundred thousand protesters all yelling in French and stuffing flyers in my face is my idea of hell.
-
aaron i agree... not particularly cos theyre protesting but 300,000 french people!!!! :D :D :D :D

I spent 5 years living Paris (self-imposed exile following the election Nuew-liebore) and if I had known you were going I could have given you some pointers.
WRT the food I disagree with many of the comment above. Although UK cuisine has come on leaps and bounds in recent years there are some things only the french can get right. I never once had a bad meal in Paris. I personally am very found of oysters, indeed along with some Ricard they were the perfect hangover cure pre-rugby match. I highly recommend Canard confit if you ever see that on the menu especially if served with garlic potatoes (pommes de terres a l'ail) And the most memorable was a warm yet raw shoulder of beef served only with sauces and shared between 6 of us.
The french are generlly misconstrued by our stereotypes, in fact many Brits confuse the French with Parisians. The latter being vile, disgusting, arrogant, english-hating, social psychopaths, while the former are generally very nice, friendly and like the english. The last point is especially poingient if you make an effort to speak the lingo regardless of your sucess at doing so.
In my many years in Paris, I had a large number of french friends yet only one was from Paris. I was his first ever English friend as the stereotypes were knocked away, oh that and his right wing Le Pen activist leanings ::)

Personally I wasn't refering to UK cuisine but to my local mediteranean.
Don't get me wrong I like Paris but it is too tiresome to be living there. Everything is big and you need a lot of time just to do normal thing like shopping for bread and milk. Although transportation is great with their subway.
Also too many ninjas now in Paris for my liking (hooded muslims). No I'm not a nationalist, racist or anything similar, just I believe if you are a foreigner you should respect the country and its customs, where you came and not try to impose your own(although you should cherrish your own if you want to, but not impose to others) .
Also one other thing, the Paris itself did deteriorate in the last few years. Was much cleaner and nicer couple of years back than this winter when I was there for the last time
