Hi all, especially the IT set :y ;)
I am trying to connect my PC to the TV. I have joined the HDMI cable to the TV and to my video card on PC, I have selected 'HDMI 1 on the TV AV listings but just get black picture :(
I have two monitors connected to the PC, but when I go to the Nvidia control panel, it is picking up the TV and one monitor. It also resizes my monitor settings. Do I need to disconnect a monitor.
Also, would it be different drivers to use TVout. I have a sneaky feeling I unchecked the TVout option when updating drivers.
My telly is a Panasonic 38" Plasma, and the graphics card is Nvidia 9800GT 1 GB. :y
I have tried googling, but most answers come up with 'plug in and away you go' or just plain patronising !!!!!!!
Hope someone can help :y
-
i think the reason they sound patronising is because they use the easier way of connecting, as I would too
i connected my pc to my TV as if it was the monitor, not in addition to another monitor, as my TV has a serial port type socket like my monitor does
then i switched it over to whatever channel it is for the computer

I have a DVI to HDMI connector for the Graphics card, would that work.....asking before I destroy the area behind the computer...not easy access ;D ;D ;D

i wa told to use an s-video lead and a scan convertor bix i think it waas called. google it you may get better info

What Operating system are you running?
According to the specs it should handle all 3, but it depends how high you run the current monitors.
Is it displayed under Windows Display properties?
Right Click on the Desktop > Properties > Settings (for XP)
Not sure on Crapdoz 7, something like Right Click on the Desktop > Display Resolution
Does it list 3 monitors in that window? Some screenshots would help :y

He's got HDMI output, he won't need S-Video :y

Tunnie...
using XP pro, Card has VGA, DVI and HDMI outlets.
Display settings only show two monitors, both resize to a lower resolution than I use. In PC mode, Main monitor 22" widescreen runs at 1680 x 1050 and monitor runs at 1280 x 1024.
As in my OP....the video card picks up the telly....but XP shows PC monitors :y

Humm must be controlled from the nVidea gubbins then, i've not much experiance with HDMI PCI cards :-[
If you did uncheck the TV out function, prob worth re-installing the drivers which this option ticked!
Just one thought, I assume your not getting a message like 'out-of-range' on the TV? Are there any options set for TV resolution?
-
No messages about range, mate....probably worth redoing the drivers as that MIGHT be the problem, as you say.
As I said...I just got that feeling I unchecked the tvout.
Obviously the cable is connected ok as TV is being picked up by name 'Panosonic' :y
Edit : Just gonna dig out TV book to see what that says about res
-
38" Plasma could well be an awkward resolution, and some XP drivers struggled with these. Up to date nVidia should cope ok though.
Som ecards can only do 2 outputs simultaneously as well...
-
its controlled in the nvidia control panel.
click setup multiple displays and you should see your TV selected.
then to get sound through the TV go to change audio settings and again select your tv.
the 9800 card if memory serves doesn't like transferring sound to the TV though. make sure you have the latest nvidia drivers :y
-
Thanks for info, fellas.
Actually, I made a mistake...its a TH-37PX8B, which is 37" Plasma. :y
It does say in the book of instructions...'The HDMI input terminal can only be used with the following image signals: 480i,480p,576i,576p,720p ,1080i and 1080p.
What does that mean :o :o
Sorry for lack of tech knowledge :-[
-
you need to adjust the resolution in your nvidia panel for your TV it should give you the option of 1080 without a problem :y

You should have this in your menu :y

Don't know if it was mentioned, but try this.
Plug everything in and then turn on the pc (if it doesnt work unplug the monitor leave only plasma pluged and again turn on the pc.
PC must be turned off before everything is pluged in.

Is it possible your DVI output and HDMI output are copies of the same thing? i.e. you can't have different setups on them?

I don't know much about these things Chris....but I personally think you might be on the right track :y
Plomein put up a pretty good screenie of the Nvidia control panel, which I can get into, but with different readings.....I pick up the telly....but can't get to the HDMI bit as shown in the pic.
Am gonna start from square one by updating drivers, and making sure TVout is enabled, then go through all the tips given earlier :y Thanks for responses....I will let you know of results as it may help someone else :y
