Title: Common sense (video)
Post by: Danny on 22 March 2011, 13:04:05
Had the dash cam running on my way home from work about an hour ago. Skip to 20 seconds in, i stop at the zebra crossing for a man and his dog and then become aware of an ambulance coming towards us, the man with the dog is also aware as he looks at it before i'm even stopped!

cheap chinese one off ebay, paid about £36 i think, plugs into the cig lighter and records onto SD so i have an 8gb card in it, and it chops the files every 5 minutes, overwrites the earliest file when it's full, and when its disconnected it'll continue to record for 20 more seconds

managed to witness a crash after i'd forgot to plug the damn thing in though! ::)

the seller i bought mine from is http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/estore009 but they dont appear to do it anymore

There are alot available under £40 now, many have screens, i stayed away from screens as there's less to go wrong, and at £40 i'm not expecting 30 years use out of it ;D

That's a tidy little unit... I'd be tempted to hard wire it in if I had one though as I only use the cig lighter when I have to for the sat nav.

my cig lighter's always live when the car's off and although i've left it connected for a couple of hours by accident, i wouldnt chance it being on all the time, and i change my cars too often to have it hard wired

back to the vid though, what sort of idiot crosses the road when there's an ambulance coming!

If I were to hard wire it I'd take a switched feed and run a wire around the windscreen/above the roof lining so that it was invisible and just popped out in the right place ;)

Indeed... Must have seen it, like you say, because he was trying to run across! You'd have thought that with a dog that's obviously curious and should be on a lead when walking in the street he would have thought twice ::) ::)

Yep that was the problem, and could have been an even bigger one!  Some dog owners are so stupid and do not seem to understand how dangerous an untethered dog is next to a road! :o :o :o  Dohh!! ::) ::) >:( >:(

I'm a great believer in walking dogs "off lead" but only when they are trained to a suitable standard. I hope that our dog (when it comes) will be trained to standard where that is possible... I know of at least 2 friends with Labs trained to a standard that they can be walked everywhere "off lead" with no hesitation whatsoever :y :y

I love OOF - dramatic footage of one man and his dog nearly getting splattered by 2 ton of ambulance up the jacksie and everyones like "nice camera" "wow good quality vid there" "where'd do you buy it the camera?"
 ;D ;D ;D :y

ps - really good quality - i thought it was footage from a cop car  :y

Imo the owner needs tethering, rather than the dog. ::) ;D

I don't think well trained children should be allowed out without a leash on, let alone dogs.

Ah but there's almost nobody left to hold their leashes.. so we should probably leash the dogs to the children, the children to the adults, and the adults to the nearest telegraph pole.. ;D

its either the large amount of sunlight or actually not the best video quality, but the dog actually WAS on a lead until he tried to drag it across the road, the lead came away from the collar! You can see it swinging after he picks the dog up to walk back across the road

i spend plenty of time on the roads and see a lot of people who cant drive competently, one day i'll catch more than an idiot with a dog aiming for the front of an ambulance ;D

sorry to harp on about the equipment rather that the footage, does the other item match up with the quality/ resolution of the unit you have ?

edit .. question answered :-[

i see you get prictures with this one ::)
