I am now completly fed up with this government. I am not personally responsible for any of the ills in this world. I am sure the next step is for my taxes to pay compensation to these people.

Oh dear I cannot possibly agree with Cameron on that one! ::) ::) :( :( :( :( :'( :'(
He has dropped an almighty clanger, and I am glad one historian has putting the truer side of the picture! :P :P
Once we start blaming our little country for everything wrong in the world then we have lost it! How about the "French" and "German" influence, not forgetting the old USSR? And that is just in modern history!
I think we can find that the Romans set a lot in motion that has echoes in the modern world! Then there was the Spanish in the Americas.............oh and the Roman Catholic Church...........then the French.............Germans...........Russians, etc, etc! ::) ::) ::)
Yes the British Empire was a great influence on what transpired around the world, with so much very beneficial. But to go back in history and start blaming factors of British rule on everything bad gives the wrong message. It is what we all do NOW that is critical, with history, not just British either, giving us grounding on what may be affecting the situation and can be used to guide good decision making.
But, what a stupid thing to say David! >:( >:(

"Answering questions from students in Pakistan on Tuesday, the prime minister said: "As with so many of the problems of the world, we are responsible for their creation in the first place"
Can't argue with that. Seems to be two types of nations. those that have interfered, pillaged and plundered in just about every corner of the land and those that didn't.
Which is best? Only one way to find out .....FIGHT!!!!

So its all our fault is it david ::)
What a muppet ::)
-
He'll start apologising for everything in the history books soon, just like that idiot B.Liar did. ::)

Varche, I am not arguing Britain influence on the world is quite large. But when cameron says "we are responsible" I am not happy.
I along with 99.9% of UK people had nothing to with the empire, but in one sentence cameron makes it our(my) fault.
Do I/should I blame all Germans for the nazis ? the answer is no I do not.

Cameron ( codename "Condem") should be commended not condemned, as condescending condemnation such as this should be contradicted and contracted to conmen like Cameron and, erm, things like that...... :(

Indeed, and Max Hastings is a king amongst British historians, along with Peter Hennessy, Martin Gilbert, Robert Kershaw, and a few others I could mention who specialise in British history :y :y :y
Hastings though is one of my heroes and is a highly respected and listened to historian, who many rate as one of the foremost historians of our time.
In his article he is pointed out exactly what the situation was, and is, in terms of British influence in history and the limit that extends to in what is now happening in modern times 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)
In my opinion, his view is spot on :y :y :y

So what of the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire or Ghengis Khan or Hitlers Third Reich or any other of History's expansionists or imperialists? What a Kn*b!Of course there were many problems caused by British Imperialism but many countries ultimately benefited in things as well! The real problem is all about those who want power/money at the expense of other, normally weaker, people. The British dont have a monopoly on that. Thought Cameron was many things but never figured him for an apologist

id rather have cameron than gordon ''i look like a sad face drawn on to a scrotum'' brown.
or any of the labour scum come to think of it.
at least cameron is attempting to fix our problems

I generally support the Condemns..... because hopefully they'll condemn Labour to opposition for a very long time!!! :y :y :y
But... call me Dave is starting to build up form in this sort of thing.... He should be out there bigging Britain up and not wringing his hands like some Liberal... Oh hang on!! ;D ;D ;D
