Title: Didn't take Kate long
Post by: Martian on 30 April 2011, 19:04:02
As per the title, it didn't take all that long to teach Kate her position in life  ;D ;D

Obviously not an acceptable joke on this forum, quite surprised to be honest as the pic showed nothing that could be deemed offensive IMO (ie, no bare flesh or owt like that).

Still, if thats the rules here then so be it (still somewhat surprised at the Mary Whitehouse reaction though).

Fair enough bud.
I personally have much better things to worry about (such as staying alive), but I see where you are coming from thanks to 13 years of nanny wrapping us up in cotton wool to protect us from the evil in the world.

I personally found it quite amusing, but I do appreciate that not everyone will share my sense of humour (a sense of humour that I admit has become quite warped recently due to my current circumstances).

PS

I guess the cancer jokes are off the menu as well?

I believe those 'current circumstances' Martian speaks of would be cancer... (from memory of earlier threads, anyway)

I'm currently halfway through chemo for it Pete.
Although cancer jokes offend many, I find them quite amusing at this moment in time.
Sick? Maybe, but it's one small contribution towards me getting through the crap days, and it keeps me smiling on the good days.

Mind you, if you think the jokes are sick I guess you won't want to know about the sweepstake I organised in my local for things like my official day of baldness, etc.
So far we have just over £200 in the pot, and the final total is going straight back to St Luke's when it's over, so some good is coming out of a bit of "dark" humour.

Must be the pic I posted yesterday.

Only just realised that my post got deleted in that thread once I noticed this thread.

Don't see the problem myself but I'm not gonna argue the decision.

Well actually Pete, yes it is, since the guy is living with the ticking time bomb that is Cancer, & I and a few others on here have had & survived or still waiting for the final 'All Clear' from it. The only way to deal with it personally is to make a joke of it, & he is also right when he says that we have swung way too far into the Self Righteous, cotton wool wrapped utopia the Loony Left began when New Laybore were sleepwalked into Power! ;)

Agree with much of what you say Phil, but the joke was a sexual one. It has been mentioned before that some members view the forum with young children looking over their shoulder, and I would imagine Daz had that in mind when he binned it.
It certainly cant have been that Daz, was personally offended as I have heard some of his jokes - more a responsible admin head on rather than what he would personally laugh at imo. ;)

it is true. those that suffer find relief in the lighter side of the condition/aliements  that those who care for or have seen other family members or friends suffer.

While I would broadly agree with you Albs, & I have no problem at all with what Daz did as an Admin, I have to question why anyone would allow young children to be present while browsing Gen Dis, as a lot of posts have questionably language, albeit lightly disguised to bypass the Forum Robot Killjoy! Some would argue that this is a 'Family' Forum? I for one do not, it is a Forum for Adults by Adults, and whilst that doesn't mean we should allow it to descend into the Gutter, neither does it mean we should allow ourselves to stifle the unique British sense of humour which has always been risque, as near the knuckle as you can get without breaking the skin and totally irreverent to all & sundry, regardless of Race, Creed, Colour, Political or Sexual Persuasion, and long may it be so imho!  ;D :y

I do agree with alot you have just posted. I do think it is an adult site myself (although some of you don't act like it sometimes  ::) ;D) I personally would read something first to see if it passes my filter before allowing our daughters to read or look at something.
I find all sorts of things funny, at a Meet or to someones face I swear, take the sap and would laugh at things on here I would delete.
As to why I deleted the picture was not because children may see it that never entered my head, but not sure what everyone one would think of it. The amount of times we have members telling us that certain posts are not right would suprise you.

I imagine this was the image that's all over t'internet.. which was mildly amusing.

Though I was much more amused by the pictures on the BBC news website, in particular the flower bearer who looked like she had more in common with Damien than of being an angelic vision to accompany the procession.

You know the one I mean.. the one with her hands over her ears and the look on her face that just says "I want to stamp my feet and complain to mummy that I do not want to be here!" (which is a look she was wearing in every picture I saw..)

That amused me. But then I'm like that (and not a fan of kids!)

That was pure and genuine from a young girl who did exactly what she thought... it was very loud and she put he hands over her ears, that really made me laugh, also so did the Newly Weds  :y

Even though I'm halfway through the course, I don't think it has fully sunk in just yet how serious my condition is. On the plus side, both my surgeons are confident I will make a recovery so that's good enough for me.

My GP won't let me work (or drive) at the moment because the cancer was bringing on "abscence seizures", hence my siggy about doing what I want and having all the time in the world to do it.
Still, she is confident that things will be back to normal in that department once I've had the op.

As far as I'm concerned the glass is still half full though, and it's filling up nicely so far  :y

We have always set OOF up to be welcoming to everybody - families, women, children, non-UK residents etc.

As Darth Loo-knee says, whilst we may find some jokes and pics funny, we are obliged/mandated to remove ones we think could cause offence - generally those categories Daz mentioned earlier.

I missed the original post, but think I can guess it was one I received via email on Friday, and if it was, it did make me snigger, but unsuitable for here :y

presumably those reading the increasingly puritanical oof with children looking over their shoulder will never have read a book with mature themes, or read a paper, or watched a film, or had a conversation or told a joke because of this either?

this isnt a kids forum so why do we all have to sanitise it in case someones little darlings read it? seems to me the parents of the little darlings have a responsibility as to what they're allowed to watch, not everyone else  :y

I missed the original post, but think I can guess it was one I received via email on Friday, and if it was, it did make me snigger, but unsuitable for here :y
It was a pic of Kate & Wills on the balcony, and for some reason Kate was on her knees with her head next to Wills crotch.
Nothing indecent about the pic itself, and as to what Kate was doing on her knees, interpretation is in the eye of the beholder on that one.

Martian - all the best with your recovery, from your posts, its sounds pretty good news, lets hope it stays on track :y
Many thanks for that.
One of my surgeons is a Lt Col, and some of his stories regarding how he has kept men alive and fighting on the frontline means that I'm more than happy for him to slice & dice me, even though the mere thought of being on the table is scaring the crap out of me (I don't like hospitals or anything medical).
