As fatherT works there during the week on an on-going government project, I get to stay in the Apartment he has for free :D
So booked ferry again (had a few troubles this year most of it was sold out!) £200 later, I had my ticket...
Weather reports for ride up looked bad, and looking at BBC weather online night before, the spot I planned to camp at in Yorkshire on way up had heavy rain, so urgent google for new site in dry forcast area and I was away...

I had a couple of showers on the way up, one really big heavy one, but my Dainese Gortex stuff, a few years old now, kept me dry :)
Arrived at the campsite, and a bit of disaster, barrier down at campsite & they had a barrier and a stupid intercom which was very quite, but I could hear they were fully booked :(
I don't usually book when camping, d'oh! Gets the iPhone out, next 5 i ring locally are fully booked too :o
Quick Googling on the phone, for once Vodafone had signal! Found on 20 mins away with space, Sat Nav set, I blasted over and setup camp:

Following morning packed up and ready to go, had rain during night, but was dry in the morning.

On Thursday did more runs over the mountain (doing filmed runs with my new bullet camera, I'll post video once i've edited the various angles and uploaded)

Then spotted something interesting go by, decided to leave and saw them again 3 corners down the road. Got off to investigate....

It was the new McLaren (still a prototype, and Ferrari)
It was for what i thought 5th Gear, but turns out it was Top Gear Magazine:

After having a chat with Tom & his team, they drove off to come back down having some shots taken. When they did, they asked if us (around 20 bikers) would mind following them up and back again for a shot for the magazine? So we all got on our bikes teared off up to the closed section, did a 3 pointer, then followed them back.
I tucked up behind the Ferrari, as we came down had loads of photos taken of the cars surrounded by bikes. Apparently it will be in the mag in a couple of weeks! :D

Leaving the Island in perfect weather, the sea was like a millpond, Steam Packets new Super Sea cat (ex US Navy) got the hammer down...

1) There is no free apartment available, father T is not there race week :)
2) The mountain one-way section becomes way too busy
Its better to go early, avoid crowds. Cheaper too ;D

Looks like a fantastic little trip, good weather past couple days too!
The McLaren isn't a prototype anymore, got released recently as the MP4 - 12C, catchy eh? :P
The Ferrari is the 458 which is the benchmark for the McLaren.
Looking forward to the video.

But FFS, if your lid falls off that gay mirror, its donald ducked ;)

Tent was on back anyway, camped on way up. Also get to see father T so another reason for going.
Could stay longer, but want to save leave for other holidays in the pipe line :-X

But FFS, if your lid falls off that gay mirror, its donald ducked ;)
If its on the ground its much more likely to get hit, kicked, rolled over. Or like some chap on the TT, have it run over by a car!
Its not going anywhere on the mirror, its not a poxy sports bike microscopic mirror! Even while sat on the bike, full right hand lock, walking the bike along, its not going anywhere!

Be a good excuse to buy another, fancy one that opens up to be full face open.

I agree though. Race week is too hectic to enjoy riding on the island to the full. Great event to watch, but there's far too much madness going on. Apart from the fact I'm not good with crowds generally.
I would go again for race week, but not on a bike.

yeah I noticed a difference in just practice week, first few days, I had mountain road to myself, I passed no-one, and nothing overtook me! So much nicer to take whole section at my speed using all of the road.
Chatting to a bunch of bikers leaving same time as me, they said the same, its good for the racing, but pants to get around the track yourself.
By end of the week, power rangers on crouch rockets would be flying past.
By and large though, I over took more people than I over took me :)

125 maybe on the fast mountain sections, but full respect to those who average that over 37 miles, including 1st gear hair pins :o
