Title: Outage 17th June (Friday AM)
Post by: TheBoy on 16 June 2011, 20:11:37
We need a full outage to swap out a disk controller.

This is planned to start just before 8am, and will take approximately 1 hour.

Disk controller swapout complete, might run a bit tardy until the batteries become fully charged.

That could have been the understatement of the day  :'(

Seems like the controller has a fault, which is what is to blame for the poor performance of the site.

New battery for the disk controller ordered, but might be a couple of days before it arrives  :'(

In the meantime, we'll try to keep the site running as best we can.

Was very slow earlier, but running fine now.
I know its been mentioned before, and I know theres no perfect answer, but I feel guilty tbh that the admins have to buy bits of electronic witchcraft to keep the OOFtinterweb going.
Does the shop really generate enough revenue to cover it ?

Whats more frustrating than who pays for it is the fact we have a brand new server sat on my dining room table (with the current OOF server's fully working disk controller in, hence the controller swap last Friday), but that won't be ready for a couple of weeks I reckon (be hard pressed to get it up and running this side of the Lakes), so this battery pack will only get used for a few days. Bugger.

But to answer your question, the server is not OOF property, therefore repairs and upgrades do not come from OOF funds :y
