A big thanks to sethsmate for organising the trip to the Welland steam and country rally. :y
Sethsmate, dad1uk and myself along with lots of new friends had a great weekend and plenty of OOF banter along with a bit of reminiscing, plenty of barbecued nosh and, of course, the "odd" pint. ::)
More pictures to follow, but here's a few for starters...
It really wasn't easy to capture the scale of this show. Something for everyone... Like a nice all-steam powered fun fair. Bu66er the environment!

One or two stationary engines..

Military vehicles, anyone?

A tractor or two and, in the background, a field being ploughed the old fashioned way...

.. a chance for some to enjoy their childhood.. and others to re-live theirs. ::)

"This is the last time I let Grandad drive!" ;D

A tractor pull with a difference (yes, they trounced anything with an internal combustion engine!)

Couldn't help but take a photo of this one for AmigoMX5 ;) Sorry about the white balance.

Looks good :y

Does look like a decent weekend had by all. Looks like the weather wasn't too hot there, as I was cooked alive on Saturday at the beer fest. Thats why my head spun Sunday morning. Must be.

Of course, it had nothing to do with the copious amounts of beer sampled :-X :-X ::) ::)

Dead right Mr Imber :y
'Twas "Keeling" of 1909 vintage en route from Welland to it's home at Astwood Bank.
One of over 60 similar exhibits at our annual rally :y

Here's a U-Tube slide show. It was a great weekend and great to meet up with Byron and Kevin and many thanks to Pam for looking after us so well... :y :y
Sorry about the quality but I used my phone because I forgot my camera....

I frickin' love steam Rallies, i'm like a kid in a sweetshop & NEVER get bored. Cars, trucks, bikes, military, rides, all of it, theres nothing i don't like at these places.
I've had a good week on here. I've now got a chilli take away/massage parlour & a truck in my honour. I'd love a drive of that Guy....my licence covers it, not sure what box they ran. I'd guess at the 2 speed axle set up, non synchro?
GREAT PICS!!!! :y 8-)

IIRC it has the ubiquitous 180 BHP Gardner 6LXB engine driving through a twin-plate clutch and David Brown 6-speed constant-mesh 'box to a single-speed Kirkstall rear axle with hub reduction. All cabs on the "Big J" truck range were manufactured by Motor Panels.
The gear-change layout was: 136
R245
Look closely at the photo and you'll see the "Indian Chief" radiator cap which has the "Feathers in our cap" legend cast into it.
Soon to totally disappear into the BL empire, Guy Motors' address was Fallings Park, Wolverhampton.
You really need to join us at Welland 2012 Guy! :y

Another picture from Byron:

Posed with 1907 Burrell showmans engine "Pride of Worcester" here's three 'high-visibility' OOFers.
L-R: dad1uk (Simon), Kevin Wood, Allen Prout (Ross-on-Wye Steam Engine Society Chairman), and Seth (Byron).

Nice pictures
NO 1310 at Astwood Bank - where is it there?
Anything to do with SE Davis? (Opposite Botany Bay nursery - where I occasionally meet VXL V6)

Here's one enthusiastic Brummie lad who willingly assisted us OOFers on the Public Campsite, and also as seen here, safely marshalling over 200 Historic Commercials to/from the arena on each day of the event.
He's none other than Simon's (dad1uk) grandson Liam - so a belated massive thanks to him for his efforts! :y :y :y :y :y
As Dave Prout, our late Chairman often told me: "Gotta catch 'em young, boy!" ;)

Byron, he's already booked his bed for next year!
Just got to hope I can get the time off!

Our public campsite opens for business at 9am on the preceding Wednesday morning.

By mid-morning, we're filling up fast.
Around 250 camping units were safely sited on this field alone by the Thursday evening. In total, nearly 1100 units were accommodated over six fields!
