Title: insurance question

how long do you have to be uninsured and not driving  for before you lose your no claims bonus. mine ran out in march and i havent drove since then although i may insure my sons shoebox fiesta in my name until i get back to work and get mine back on the rd

Can you not aquire a letter from your previous insurers with proof of NCD. This is what I did when I went on a lease scheme for several years. When I went back to insuring my own car, I just showed the letter as proof of NCD and they accepted it. Mind you, I did go back to the same insurer.  :-/

i'm sure someone willl come along and say i'm wrong  ::) but all i know is when i wrote off my astra i didnt have a car until 5 years later...... they told me that cos i hadnt owned a car for 3 years i'd have to put down no ncd  :y

ive still got my last yrs premium which says i have 2 yrs no claims bonus on it, if thats any good. all my yrs before that were on company insurances or not driving.

I stand corrected. Looks like Webby is correct. I just googled it and got this:

Most insurers require that your NCB certificate must have been issued in the last 2 to 3 years.

i was gutted to be honest.... i mean i dont see why you shouldnt keep it until you get a new car

I believe you start to lose your NCB's after 2 years.
You lose it in steps though.
Not all at once  ;)

My local broker told me it was 2 years, then you have to start again.

Not sure about the "losing in steps" bit though. :-/ :-/ :-/
