Please answer sensibly and honestly as this is a serious market research question.
Thanks for your honesty and time :y
Results will show at the end of the poll :y
-
As previously discussed.
Never,
but father in law has twice when running a diesel van, and petrol car.
-
never , but here you dont fill yourself..
but if I had to, sure I would ;D :y
-
Voted no, but know someone who has and cost him a fortune for some company to come out to the garage and sort him out.....
I have had to remember to double check at times though.. ::) ::)

That's the main culprits according to statistics. ;) ;)
Happens more often that we think. 1 every 3-4 minutes nationwide :o :o

Yep :o Amazing how many people still manage to put Diesel into a petrol (considering the nozzle doesn't fit ;)) but normally the other way around due to the modern Diesel being so much more quiet and refined :y
-
Voted nevr Mrs C - have you? ::)
-
although iv put down (no never) gotta say have seen a fair share of people doing that and forking out alot of money (while being in car rentals).
Still remember this weeked 10 brand new 08 reg focus diesels were deliverd, 8 come back on recovery trucks, with wrong fuel put in... :( :(
(although keyring, fuel flap and on dash had big diesel sticker) :-X :-X :-X
-
Voted nevr Mrs C - have you? ::)
Not personally, but I lots of people who have (and even more who nearly have!), some of them several times :o :o
I know someone who has done it to every car he's owned as well as a few he's borrowed :o :o
-
I've never put the wrong fuel into a vehicle but then I used to drive a diesel van for a living so I'm used to swapping between different pumps.
I've spent the last six months working as a mobile mechanic and have had to pump out the wrong fuel on three different vehicles so far!
-
I fail to understand how, but I do know someone who has.
If people are that distracted when Fuelling, what are they like when they are driving. Scary.

My brother-in-law managed to put petrol in a diesel, his last five cars have been diesel :o
-
if they changed the pump nozzle to square and round depending on what fuel wouldn't be a problem. quite a good idea i think. if you have an old car you buy an adapter to slot on pump
-
3 different cars & each has different fuel. Diesel Astra, 95 Ron in the Omega & 98 Ron in her Smart, never been tempted to put the wrong fuel in any of them. :y
-
Done it in my Astra 1.7 DTi before, put a fivers worth of unleaded in, put £10 worth of diesel in afterwards, it was fine :) Not done it since luckily.
-
.... put a fivers worth of unleaded in, put £10 worth of diesel in afterwards, ...
Last of the big spenders ............ ::) ::) ::)
-
never done it myself, but drained many a citroen bx when i worked for citroen.
-
twice :-[ .......once in a works ford galaxy ..i had my own ford galaxy petrol at the time and must have been on autopilot..second time i had a citroen c8 i had finished work in london at 7.am after a 12 hour night shift driven home to barnsley..not gone to bed and at 3.pm after getting a call from my daughter went to pick her up stopped for fuel and fatigue got the better of me :-[
-
Not done it myself.... but did have the wrong fuel put in once ...... 12000 ltrs of AVGAS (Aviation Gasolene) that should have been AVTUR (Aviation Turbine Fuel).... now that took some sorting out ... and it wasn't even a nice place to be stuck in ... :(
Some very embarrassed ground crew on that one...
-
... that should have been AVTUR (Aviation Turbine Fuel).... .....
So what's AVTUR like then? The only turbines I've ever worked on had super heated steam (550psi 850oF) going through them.

It's essentially Kerosene IIRC. Can't see AVGAS (petrol) doing a turbine engine a lot of good. :o

Ah! Parrafin then ;) ;) ;)
I don't think it'd be a good idea to be around to find out! ;D ;D ;D
-
I borrowed a Triumph Rocket 3 off my brother from his works and put diesel in it .....Doooh :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ .Well my excuse was I drove a truck and my diesel mig at the time ,so all things ran on diesel ::) ::) Luckily I realised what I had gone and done ,so I didn't start it up and made a very sheepish phone call to him to come and collect it :-[ :-[ Heres url so you can have a butchers at one http://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/range/cruisers/rocket/2010/rocket-III-roadster

A bloke at work used to have one with a cut off exhaust ............ it was loud enough to wake the dead! :o :o

Oh yeah, currently I put £10 in the van and £20 in the big depending on which I take out, and all my vehicles that are purely sales vehicles has £5 in them :)
-
I put about £6 worth of petrol in my Citroen C3 HDI in about 2003. Tanked it with Diesel and no problems. Just as well as it only had 80 miles on it ::) ;D
-
I've never done it but about 20 years ago I sold a Volvo DL-240 in a private sale, the guy that bought it thought the 'DL' stood for diesel and promptly filled up with it only to wonder why it stopped just as he got off the forecourt of the filling station. he tried to get me to take the car back and refund his money or pay for the clean-up work to be done saying I hadn't made it clear to him that it was a petrol engine. I told him to make love to his own anus (or words to that effect)
-
bit like this then ;D ;D ;D

-
I've never done it, but I drive petrol cars only - hate diesel and their sound >:(
-
I've put petrol in my wifes diesel a couple of times ::)
-
I put unleaded in my diesel van in a tesco once partly on auto pilot and partly due to them only having city diesel using a yellow hose, realised before starting so rolled it off the forecourt drained and diluted what was left. Also put diesel into my jag xjs that smoked a little but did get me back home. drained tank refilled not problem. I use too many vehicles and have to double check often.
-
nope never! Kinda hard to put LPG in the unleaded tank ;D
-
.... And if you did incorrectly fill fuel tank, lpg would still get you there anyway. Al be it to a garage to pump the fuel out. :)
-
Sort of did that.
How about 10 000 litres lube oil into a waste oil tank?
At least we were able to recover it and burn it through the main engine over a few days, once it was mixed with the crap that normally went though it!
-
yes but put lower one in so if 10a put 7.5a.. stops damage. only doit on 10a fuses though.

and a recycled rat at that lol :y
managed to do it once but the pump was marked up incorrectley :y
-
Haven't done it myself, but will never forget the time I spent sat on a garage forecourt when I was working in the Royal Signals Mobile Presentation Team and had to syphon out a full tank of diesel from a petrol VW Caravel after my oppo filled it! Then having to go straight to a local cadet night to do shows, we were all stinking .... probably not the best impression we made during out tour :o
-
around 6 years ago now i read that a boy of around 10 was set to make a fortune as he had came up with a simple way of making sure this never happened again......by changing the shape of the nozzle.
so if you have a deisel car it would be a triangular nozzle that wouldnt fit in the round hole.
such an easy and simple fix i was bloody annoyed that i hadnt thought of it!!
as i say though, that was a while ago,and we all still have round holes so god knows what happened.
-
Thanks for the answers on here, was just for market research but interesting that there were more ticks in the yes/know someone options (combined) than the never box
-
Can I blame 'Mrs Cakey'? ??? ???
In nearly 5 years of owning both a petrol car & a car powered by The Fuel of Satan, I've never even nearly put the wrong fuel in a car. Last night however, I put petrol in my TD Astra! :( It was only £10 to get me to work in it today so I could fill it with cut price vouchers on my way home this afternoon, but there was bugger all in there to start with. Drove 3 or 4 miles home with no problems, but it half heartedly started this morning then died, so rather than mess with it I used the Omega. I mentioned it this morning to one of the lads who immediately diagnosed me being a t1t & putting petrol in.
All sorted now though!!! :y :y :y
