I think the act of the hacking of Milly Dowler's phone was absolutely odious and it's quite right that News International should cop the blame
But...
...to me, there's something, well, slightly distasteful about Milly's family becoming millionaires. If I was her father, I would despise myself for becoming seriously wealthy as a result of her murder, whether directly or indirectly.
Maybe it's just me, though. :-/ :-/ :-/

It wouldn't sit well with me either,I think I'd have to give the money to charity.
However the ba$tard who tapped her phone should be in jail >:(

Given the upset it must have caused... They may feel it's justified. See your point though.

well i think the money should'nt have gone to them but donated to some charity or the like...a charitable trust set up in poor millies name maybe :y

A decision for them surely!

See link:
"The deal is likely to involve a personal donation of £1m to charity by company boss Rupert Murdoch, and the Dowlers would receive about £2m."

I agree.

Payout was same as the sacked editor of News of the Screws, as I understand it. ::) :-X

Well, its good to see the Murdochs having to part with the money, although its pocket change to them I suppose.
A bit early to judge the family maybe ? They may use it to set up some type of foundation named after Millie or similar, time will tell. :-/
It wouldnt seem right though, if the dad was suddenly posing around town in a Ferrari and mum had a facelift. ;)

Fells a bit like bribery to me. Drop the case or the charities lose £1M. :(
If I were in their position I hope I would have the bitter determination to pursue the bstrds until I draw my last breath. >:(
After all, £3M is beer money to Murdock. Well worth it to make an inconvenient little problem go away. >:(

Good grief. I agree with you :o
