We are off up there next month for a few days and will be staying in Glasgow. we plan to visit L/Lomond and Edinburgh but I was wandering if there was oher places that we should visit aswell. Seems silly to drive all that way and not have every day sorted in what we are going to do that day.

If you have even the slightest interest in technology, but even if you don't ... the Falkirk Wheel is an absolute must ... the whole reason for it, the two canals, everything is just amazing .. :)

Do NOT miss this ... (IMHO) ... :)

You don't need to go as far as the Land of Jocks in Frocks for canals ...... the Anderton Boat lift isn't far from me & you'd be passing on your way north ;) ;) ;)

Cheers Andy.... On the way back we are planing to stop at the Mill something that is next to the Lancaster Canal. We plan to use that as our base, so we can revisit the lakes and few new attractions.... so this could be a " just popping out for a while " moment ;) ;D ;D

I spent years not far from Edinburgh and had never even heard of St Mary King's Close, we normally crawled along Rose St ::) (virtually no pubs left now I believe :() however my daughter went a couple of years ago with her boyfriend and thought it was fantastic. http://www.realmarykingsclose.com/
Don't forget about the gun at 1 o'clock! ;D ;D ;D

If you do decide to take in the Falkirk Wnheel, then if trains/steam is to your liking try
http://www.srps.org.uk/railway/. Also , steam related, if your up Loch Lomond, for a good pub/grub/history try http://www.thedroversinn.co.uk/ and then take at trip roond the Trossachs to take in http://www.lochkatrine.com/steamship.html. Lastly, if midges affect you, take plenty of Avon Skin So Soft
-
Yeah, Avon SSS is a must if on the west side! Used by the Royal Marines and it DOES work!
Try the east coast as well, head up from Edinburgh to the Angus Glens, start point is Edzell, great to look at in any season. Glen Prosen, Glen Clova, Glen Esk and a couple of others
http://www.angusahead.com/VisitAngus/ExploringAngus/VisitAngusGlens.asp (http://www.angusahead.com/VisitAngus/ExploringAngus/VisitAngusGlens.asp)

PS, I used to live just outside Forfar so was a regular visitor there.
