Had a great thought.

I am a keyholder at work. If there enough of us and work are not working on 12th, we could drive to work and use our car park for a photo shoot.

Mike

P.S. Man you lot worry about your cambelts too much. I must just run it til it goes and try to obtain a record. Perhaps for the stupidest person on the forum :)

We have ca 10-11 cars. Will we have enought place to park them at the McDonalds? It's saturday and usually Madejski Car Park is full at this time.
Title: Re: Reading Meet No. 2
Post by: mike213735 on 27 June 2008, 13:06:05
The car park at Mcdonalds covers BHS, Comet, MacDonalds, Carpet Right and then on the other side, Kentucky, Pizza hut and B&Q.

As I said in an earlier post, providing we are not open at work, once we have all met, we could convoy to my work car park for some photos.

We need to just hang around near MacDonalds for the initial meet.
We'll use Goldie as a landmark, just look for an amazing gold Omega and an estate that looks like it's seen better days, although by then it will have a new water pump and cambelt thanks to VX1 (for supplying) and Rob (m1ct's partner) for the fitting (tomorrow).

Thanks
Mike

It was just mu suggestion...I know that there are problems finding spots on Saturday, but I am more after B&Q (wife's "cravings" - pillows, flowers, hangers etc ;) )
So see you then.
Title: Re: Reading Meet No. 2
Post by: mike213735 on 27 June 2008, 20:39:56
Yeah, I know what you are saying, that car park can be a nightmare on a Saturday.
Thing is, as the meet becomes more popular, we are going to find it more difficult to find somewhere to meet.

Once I have taken you all roulnd to our work car park, we could make that the new meeting place. Then we could lock the gate and walk round the corner to the Gorge cafe follwoed by a walk down the river. Hell, we could even all hold hands across the roads if you wish :)

Mike
T minus 13 hours to cambelt change!

Title: Re: Reading Meet No. 2
Post by: mike213735 on 28 June 2008, 20:56:25
OK, it's me, probably a bit off topic now, we ought to start a new post "Mike's Cambelt Woes"

Rob = top bloke, he couldn't have been more helpful. Not only did he fit my kit and WP, but he supplied me with a jack and rubber mount for my ICV. Mind you, there must have been a million things in his Alladins cave, I mean 3rd bedroom, that I would have liked. Basically, he has an Omega in kit form in his bedroom, well, not quite

Well Paul came up trumps with the parts (cheers mate) and Rob fitted the belt kit and water pump (thanks to you too mate).
There was a point where we were looking to lift the engine by the water pump as it did not want to shift, but as Rob said, it will give up before he does :)

Here is an image of Rob's handywork.

A bit of an odd day for me, I drove to Robs parents, helped Rob fit the kit (well, I held the torch) and then we attempted time travel in 2 of Robs cars, the BMW M3 and the mad estate car which I can't remember the name of.

Thanks to all that helped me get the belt done, you guys are great!

By the way, it has been noted that there is no time up for the meet on 12th. We were looking to do 1pm, I hope that fits with everyone!

Mike

you saddo's.. ::)

I'm still hoping to be there.  What's the game plan?  Staying there or moving on somewhere else?  I'm asking because mrs ians may come to spend my money in B&Q,  but won't be impressed if there is no car there when she's done..

Also - there is a Halfords just up the road.  I'll bring my trade card in case anyone wants anything.

We are not working at work so we can meet at Mcdonalds car park, drive to my work on Cardiff Road (not far round the IDR), have a photo opportunity in the car park and then, weather permitting, walk to the Gorge Cafe and have an all day breakfast.

My work address is Cardiff Road Reading, RG1 8EX, car park is on Milford Road. It might be worth printing a route out, just in case we don't all get through the traffic lights. I reckon it's only about 2 miles from Reading Retail thingy.

See you all tomorrow...

Hhhmmm, where should we meet for No. 3?

Best map to use is google maps. Much clearer and you can alternate between the different maps and use satallite.
Take a look at this link:

well, nice to meet you all, sorry could not stay longer, but wanted to find source of my cars bloody water leak, right in front of everybody. Well, it seems the HBV, that thing i told some of you they had done away with, as i had been told by 2 other people in the trade, i hasten to add, is leaking. Had a dig around with the scuttle off and there, for all to see, is an HBV valve. The bottom of it is wet, so pretty sure its that. Its a relief, koz its easiest and cheapest to fix, in my experience  at least. See you next time, pizza hut maybe?

Chris,

Nice to see you.

Sorry to see your water leak mate, but, as you said, at least it is one of the easiest / cheapest faults to fix. Strange thing is, my car is smelling of coolant today too and my "Coolant Low" warning has come up.

Need to try to diagnose mine too now.

Thanks
Mike

Don't know why or how, but I can smell coolant leaking from my car as of today.

Dear Friends,

It was a pleasure meeting you all at the Reading meet. My first meet...felt as if though we have known each other for a long time.

Rob, thanks for pointing out the oil leak in the plug wells. Got back home safely. Need to get it fixed pretty darn quick !

Mike, thanks for organising the meet.

A great afternoon, looking forward to Meet no.3

With kind regards

It was a pleasure to see you too mate. Yes it was almost like we were a bunch of old mates, but I suppose that's what its all about.
A couple of us seemed to develop water leaks and Chris has diagnosed his but I am still waiting to find out what my problem is.
I have already placed a post on the forum for Reading meet no. 3.

See you soon

I'll have to reply, O! as in suprised?
