Whe is best for everybody how is intrested?
Sure Ian will be able to sort this out again :)

This meet has the potential to be as big as Lakes or Newent given the full kitchen shower facilities, generators & marquees/music for night use, work on cars allowed & we're welcome back. Sadly it clashes with Newent when many folk are driving past York to get there. I've heard rumours Chopsdad (Evening Mark) has another Lakes venue pending but not sure.
I'd love to go to Newent but given the time, location etc i'll attend York this year & maybe Lakes if it's on as i loved the 07 meet.
None of us are trying to turn this into a contest between Newent/Yorks but it seems so far many of the admins & longer standing members are sticking with the other two, York really needs a look given it's central location.
Taking all things into consideration maybe next year we could spread the 3 meetings a little further apart. I appreciate everyone won't be able to make all 3 but it would give folk more choice & the York meet the recognition it deserves. :y

Whilst I totally accept what you say, and I would love to "do" York ... I would imagine that, for the majority of OOF'ers there is very little difference between "The Lakes" and "York" in travelling terms, but a huge difference between "Newent" and "York" ...
From my point of view, if a replacement site for "The Lakes" can't be found, is there any chance of York moving to that time of year, rather than having 2 major meets "Oop Narth" ???
This would then leave us with a "major" meet both North and South ??
Just my thoughts .. nowt else :)

Sounds like a better plan to me... Newent is my choice of meet this year as we're having our holiday around it and have family and friends in the area...
In addition to that there are things to do and places we want to go in the area :y :y :y
I'm afraid York doesn't have the same appeal to me (personally) but I would be happy to consider coming for the meet if other commitments allowed.

I must admit, from past experience of "flying" visits to the area, there are some very nice pubs/clubs/eating houses in York, and when I actually took the mrs + kids for a visit there was plenty to do, railway museum, Jorvick centre, Cathedral etc etc .. but I would probably spend most of my time at the "meet" rather then doing the tourist thing !!
-
I wasn't knocking York for entertainment... I have family near Richmond and think the whole area is beautiful but not some where I'd want to spend a 12 day break, as we are in Newent (actually going for longer but staying with family for a weekend in Wales first) whereas for York I'd be unlikely to come for anything other than the meet.
Each to their own... Just my personal feelings :y :y :y

I don't like agreeing but so would I....
I went to York hoping for more Roman things going on but there wasn't any :'( just Vikings and more Vikings :-?

Cough, Minster, cough....
I have to say that York is 2+hours closer for me!
I may well attend but, it depends on home commitments as usual
-
Count me in if the dates are OK for me, (with caravan and SWMBO).
-
Isn't it possible to spread out the york and lakes meet this year as neither are booked etc.
-
Whe is best for everybody how is intrested?

Not a problem at all...
Give me dates, and I will sort this!
Big or Small turnout, this will go ahead like last year! The Large tent, Music, Facilities the lot! :y
Oh and we cant forget... Guys famous curry too! :D ;)

To be honest, I would want to stay ANYWHERE in the UK for a 12 day break!! :o

You have no sense of adventure ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Some of the best holidays I've had have been in this country... My attitude is to enjoy it whilst I can, because before much longer there'll be no pleasure holidaying here :o :o :o
We were originally planning to take the old Pikey box to either Southern France or the Italian Lakes but with the current Euro situation it's actually cheaper to holiday over here, and the Newent site ticks all the boxes for us.
That said, if the York meet was on a weekend we could make then we'd be there, there just aren't many I can do this summer due to other commitments :( :( :(
-
Interesting. I hope Lakes has'nt died a death as i love Cumbria. If it has Newent could be the southern meet, York the middle ground & i believe there's a Scotch meet which would cover all of our isle & give folks a choice. If Newent 09 is booked for sept this year would it be an idea to book York for april/may in case Lakes crops up in the summer?
Not too hot or cold. that way many would have the chance to attend both, me included!!!!! 8-)

Well ive just got a caravan, and im planning on doing a few hols this year in it around uk... Im planning on going to scotland for maybe a week or so. :y (Depends on work)
And if I did a longer 12 day break I would got to a different campsite every few days etc, and keep moving to see different places! Couldn't stay in the same place that long! ::)

Good idea there Guy :y
Other thing that my dad pointed out to me other day was the cricket season... If were there during this time other people maybe about too that’s all! Cant see this been a problem though as theres plenty of space! ;D
-
Hi Ian. Not up on the cricket season, are some of the grounds & pavillion taken up? When i was washing up in the kitchen it appeared the sport fields were away from our area so hopefully we would'nt encroach. Let's face it cricket is a dull pastime, maybe some of the players will see the benefits of a Mig est to load thier wickets willow & leather into, load 'em up with vodka on sat night then watch them fall OVER thier OVERS while they're hung OVER on Sunday morning! :D
Joking aside, we have some time to see how the land lies regarding when members can attend & other events on the site.
I'll be there whatever the outcome. :y

PMSL! ;D
Not sure, will ask my dad as he plays it! :y
I don’t think they use the upstairs of the pavilion no, more worried about flying balls to be honest! Having said that, we could just move down a little, and put the tent other side of cars JUST incase! :P

We sometimes move from site to site but this site in Newent is in a prime location for us and ideally located in the middle of most of what we're planning to do, so we wont bother moving :y :y :y :y
TBH we're actually starting off somewhere else so we're having 4 days there and 10 days at Newent :y :y
-
So shall we book York in the spring this year so it does'nt coincide with Newent & leaves a gap in the summer for the Lakesmeet if it happens? Ian can book with a little notice, i can use a day or two's holiday to help him set up the music, marquees, bbq, CURRY etc.
This would also give folk the chance to spread the time & expense to attend both meets, me included. 8-) :y

I am easy in the nicest possible way...

I'd love to see you there Daz as i would All the admins, Bob Dent & everyone who lives further down south but will drive to the lakes & Scotch members who will drive down to Newent. This meet is smack bang in the middle & has everything including the site holders approval & it's canine friendly if you want to bring your poochies....it's rather' great!. We can arrange marquees for inclement weather/evenings with cooking & music. I know i'm crusading again but now we've got a gap between York & Newent i'd like to see admins & longer standing members give this meet a chance please, it really is a cracker & with all of us us instead of just the usual few it would be even better. :y
-
I will be up for this (if it's not the first weekend in July - that's spoken for) since I can't make Newent.
Kevin
-
Could do with a date getting sorted?
and how much is it? :y
-
If I'm not committed already then I'll be up for it :y :y :y :y
-
If we make this the first 09 meet i imagine April/May would be the best bet to leave time for Lakes & Newent, ie spring, summer, autumn. This is Ian_D's baby but deserving of those who normally only do the other two to have a looksee. I'd love to see some interest from admins & earlier members whose names go straight down for Newent/Lakes. Given that now they're 5 or 6 months apart i hope those in question give this a chance. It'll go ahead anyway but we'd love more of the aformentioned to be present.
Guy. :)
-
Do you have room for caravans ?? If so, depending on which weekend is chosen, we'll try and come up, its a tad of a drag, but should be worth it.. :)

Caravans no problem. Plenty of room. :y

Great :y :y now as long as you choose a weekend when Mrs E doesn't have other plans for me ...... :)
-
Sad to admit that i have not read all the posts of this thread but, has a date been fixed? Me and her are spoken for the first weekend but should manage for any others thereafter... :)
-
Just what we wanted. Longer serving members & admins giving this meet a look. (thankyou Entwood & Broocie) It at least as good as the others, hav'nt been to Newent (yet) so won't say better but the marquees & power cover cold evenings/wet days that can spoil an otherwise good meet so we need Jaimie, MDTM, Tunnie, Bob Dent, The Zoks, Tony H, S.P 32 & ALL the rest of you who hav'nt attended to do so this year. BBQ, Curry, healthy egg sausage & bacon rolls in the morning & a Sunday Booty/market to walk off the previous nights excesses!!! :D
I'll contact Ian with a view to booking in April/May & we'll take it from there. :y
-
Sounds like fun mate I'm sure we'll be up for a trip to the wrong side of the Pennines. ;D
-
Dates dependent I may be able to make. I probably wouldn't go camping until mid/late May personally though.
What facilities, as Mrs TB would only come if fully facilities - ie showers and clean toilets, and leccy hookup powerful enough for hairdryer!
-
Saying that, I'm running out of weekends for May :(
-
would only pay a visit if in may as new baby due to pop out in april and swmbo will need me to give weekend rest from her nightly feeds and nappy changes.
just think if the meet happens in april she may come along and give birth in back of a miggy :D ;D ;D ;D

The area of the site we had use of last year was without hook up, however the other side of the field/site did have half a dozen pitches complete with hook up. I'm sure that Ian could kick up his genny for Mrs The Boy's hair dryer ..... not that it matters when you're in a field as to what your hair looks like. ;D ;D
-
I'm potentially up for this too - Newent is ages away and I'm keen to attend a few OOF meets this year.
I'll bring a tent and be prepared to freeze! (Mind you, it would be a shame to waste the sumptuous leather interior in the mig...)
:y

If she got desperate I'm sure we'd allow her to use some proper facilities ..... and I'll have the generator to run MRs E's hairdryer anyway .... .... :)

Hairdryers could be used in the pavillion/bar room/club house.

Fridge can run off gas, phone should last, laptop should last for a morning's Tech2ing. The lighting is a problem, might have to go back to gas lanterns...

I have a generator if required. A tractor one too. :y

There are all lady Oofers facilities, & i'ts good to see some more interest from new & "old" members. Regarding the camping seasons TB I would'nt imagine there's too much difference between spring & autumn (Newent) so give the site a look if you can & other admins please.
A meet this good does well for the forum. :)

Remember Newent is just at end of summer. May is just before summer. April is more likely to be wetter and colder than May...

I take your point regarding the seasons Jaimie, trying to spread 3 meets over the year as many of us are hoping this one reaches the popularity of the others. I've been a family man in the past so understand wives & children should'nt be expected to sit around in grotty weather, although use of the pavillion & marquees goes some way to help & the site is family/pet friendly. If May instead of April makes it a little more tempting for you i'm sure we're all happy with that. If we can get 3 major meetings up & running, many won't attend all but it gives members more choice when juggling work/family holiday commitments. Work on cars is also allowed. :y
Ian. Given that we're expecting a better turn out this year, would it be an idea to get a list started for May & book the hardstanding area so caravans can hook up? I might be bringing one myself this year as i'm getting old & sick of tents. It'd stop me driving like a pr*ck as well!!! (got the rest of the year to do that!!!) :D Also easier for jacking cars up. Guy. 8-)

Right, I will try and contact the bloke again and ask him, however were not actually camping at the campsite as such (where RIGHT next to it, and can use the facilities), and I think theres rules in place stating how many caravans etc they can have there... HOWEVER, these rules may not apply if its a big group booking.
As for generators etc... If wanted I can bring my genny down again, thats not too much a problem.
If its too cold for kids etc, I cant see any reason why a few can't sleep in the pavilion! ;D (Just a thought)

May's a bit busy for me but I may be able to get a couple of days off and try to come :y :y :y

Personally I think I will come to this meet and give The Lakes a miss, what with the amount of people who are going to Newent, I think it will be difficult to find a site to accommodate us all now.
I had pencilled us in last year for Newent this year!!

Which field? Facilities presumably in main building near hardstanding?

Yeah but i think the photo's a little old. I could pop out & take some newer pics although if Ians got time he might be able to contact the owner & post some interior pavillion pics & some site ones. I can pop up & do this if need be. We were pitched on the grass below the hardstanding as caravans were there, but if we book early we get the best of both worlds. :y

Yes thats right... Theres a keypad type lock thing on the door, and the bloke gives us the code so we can get in to use the bogs etc!
If we have the function room upstairs (which we did last year), we get the use of a fully working kitchen, bar area and our own private toilets too! :y
Theres also 240v available up there if anyone needs it for anything *cough* AndyB - Charging up his caravan battery! *cough* ;D

When is this planned for then??? I only stand a chance of being able to attend the 8/9/10th May or15/16/17th May... Any other weekend will need too much holiday or is already committed... TBH I'm meant to be picking someone up from the airport on the 9th but can hopefully get that covered by someone else :y :y :y
-
Just a quick update... I’ve just phoned him and asked about access to the site again like last year, he says were certainly welcome back - I just depends on dates. :D
I asked him about May, and he said that it’s very good for him providing it’s either of the first two weekends. Would these dates be any good? Or do we want it some other time? :question
Basically all he needs are set dates from us so he can check if it’s available, and then pencil us in!
I’ve told him it will basically be the same as last year, but on a larger scale! And he said that it’s all fine! Cars + Caravans (No hookup Unless you book a private caravan space on the hard standing) + Tents etc all welcome. :y
-
Great. It's narrowed down to Sat the 3rd or 10th may. should be ok to pitch up on the friday, Because i don't know how too can someone who does please start an attendee list stating how many, tent/caravan etc so we can establish who can make which weekend or can those who can make either add your names accordingly & we'll go with the majority. This way Ian can deal with the monies & i can book time off to help him set up & know how much curry to cook!!! I can make either weekend so start the list,
AmigoMV6 & caravan.
-
Just had another thought too...
If we do it the first weekend in May, Monday 4th is a bank holiday too! :y So your could come down for 3 nights if you wanted then (Fri-Mon)! :D Guess this would make it more worthwhile if travelling a long way too! :y
I will more than likely be going down Friday mid dayish, to get everything setup etc. :)
-
Username | Adults | Kids | Caravans Tents |
Ian_D | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
AmigoMV6 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
Dates to be decided between us all still!
-
First weekend in May isn't doable now :'(
-
If May is the month .. I can only do 8-10th (Fri-Sun) or the bank Holiday at the end ... 22 - 25th (Fri-Mon) 2 adults with caravan but no leccy needed ... :)
-
The only one I can possibly do is 8th-10th, 2 adults - caravan - can do without leccy :y :y :y
That is dependent on me palming off collecting the in-laws from Gatwick on someone else ::) ::)
-
So it's the weekend 8th 9th & 10th of May then. I can book Thursday/Friday off work to help Ian set up.
NEW LIST PLEASE. :y

Glad its not the bank holiday weekend - have visions of being stuck on M1 for hours. Saying that, the proposed 8/9/10 weekend isn't looking good for me either.
Organise it for when you can, if I can make it I will try to get up, if I can't, maybe next time....

When & if you do come, leave yours, use Northampton ring road & follow A1 Peterborough, stay on A1 til you get to York, turn right & you're there. I avoid the M1 like the plague regardless of what i'm driving. A1 also better for family/children stops when needed. :y

I don't stop ;)
A1 is just too far away - by the time I get to the A1, I could be outside Sheffield if I take the M1 ;)
-
Why not leave the M1 at Leicester then A46 to Join A1 at Newark ??
Tail end of the way I'd go from here.... A429, Coventry bypass M69, M1 then as said... I find the M1 is worst up around Sheffield / Leeds anyway !!

You'll be perfectly OK ... with a caravan behind you to slow you down .... :)

Shame I will miss this one but keep me in mind for later on in the summer. I'll need to unwind after afghan! ;D

Driven north on M1 many times Fridays once passed Leic/Notts traffic usually ok heading north thro Leeds using M1 joins A1 (M) then exit for A64 wouldnt even consider using A1 any further south as there both busy roads on fridays and it being only 2 lanes sucks at times. :-?
-
ians and mrs ians are interested depending on date, but could someone post up the details please? date, location etc as plowing through 7 pages of thread is a bit hard going :y
Maybe worth putting in a new thread with attendee list when its fixed?
Cheers
Ian

The A1 is a much better road now as they have removed most of the roundabouts :y :y
