Title: York meet queries
Post by: TheBoy on 27 April 2009, 08:22:26
Please keep this to genuine queries so the organisers - mainly Ian_D and AmigoV6 - can answer all queries.  Off topic chat will get nuked. Cheers :y

As a starter for 10, has the BBQ situation been resolved - traditionally at OOF meets, we tend to have a big BBQ that we all gather round in the evenings - which helps make it a more social affair than if everyone all did their own seperate things in their own tents in the evenings.

let me know you you want anything hauled up in 4 pot, shall be attending with a mate. Should have plenty of space.

Portable bbq will be coming, sourced some lava rock for a tenner from homebase.

The leccy hookups are part of another site (on same site, if that makes sense). Most of use will be on the field with no leccy, so Ian_D is organising some gennys to run when required (though obviously off at night)

No point in the flood lights then, as you say they will suck too much juice

The big genny was on last time until about an hr before we all called it a night! (Cant remember what time that was, guessing around midnight - 1:00 ish) I dont mind it been on for the lights, but they maybe a bit too bright on our eyes... that was what I was thinking anyway!

I think the big floods may be a bit overkill for an evenings barbeque/booze up. I remember at Newent a couple of years ago we had some white rope lights which worked well.
Anyone got any of those they can bring along maybe?
The only ones I have are multi coloured but I could bring them if we're stuck.

Bear in mind some people may want to get their head down a bit earlier - I normally get to midnight and get tired, or will catch 2nd wind and go on for hours ;D - particularly perhaps those with little ones, so noisy genny may be an issue after, say, 10:30ish?  Also, many of use are under cnavas, so it there are blackpool illuminations outside, that may be an issue after people start going to bed  :-/

I have a rechargable flourescent tube that runs for about 3hrs (1 tube) or 90mins (both tubes) before it needs a charge, which might be handy for later on, and sure a few gas lamps can deal with lighting once people start to want to get their heads down who are pitched nearby.

Lighting inside the big tent is sorted! Its the lighting for outside(ie walking to / from caravans/tents/bogs thats a bit dark, thats all!)

My genny is noisy tbh, and I forgot that last year there were no kids! So I guess we will have to switch to battery like TB says above around 10:30 mark. (Or when it runs out of petrol like last year a couple of times  ;D)

I've thought about coming as I've got family in York.

I'd only be able to make it for a couple of hours but I'd be really interested in getting opinions on my oil/coolant leak problems.
Would anyone be able to have a look at it for me if I do go? What's the best day to solicit help?

Mrs TB has camped enough to know to take a torch with her to get to bogs, presumably there is lights in there?

As said elsewhere I'll have my large gas bbq with me that folks are more than welcome to use. To give a clue to its size it takes 2 to lift and a lot of arguing to get it through the pikey palace door. I'll also have the grill and hobs in the caravan, and the bbq has a hob on the side.

If anyone wants to know where things are locally then feel free to ask Ian or myself and we'll point you in the right direction.

Its gas, I'll bring a full bottle with me and it wont run out, as a rule a full bottle lasts me about a year, and it gets used most weekends.

Heres a pic of Guy cooking the curry on it last year..

Is there showers at this meet?

I as others have children so where do we take them to shower?

Sorry I have found the answer, so i have another question....

Is there a shower curtain so my daughter can get a shower in the womens without her getting seen? I don't suppose many other women will be keen on showering in front of anyone else either :-?

I'll be arriving at 7ish on Friday, and I'll get the bbq cranked up straight away. I managed to get Friday booked off at short notice, then a few people have called in sick so I've had to cancel my day off

Sorry I have found the answer, so i have another question....

Is there a shower curtain so my daughter can get a shower in the womens without her getting seen? I don't suppose many other women will be keen on showering in front of anyone else either :-?

From what I remember they're communal. i used our caravan's shower last year.

I'm sure the main door to the showers is lockable though.  :-/ You could always stand guard ... on the outside of the door.  ;)

Correct, There is a Post Office there which sell bits and bobs!  :y

Also if your wanting a trip to Clifton Moor shopping centre, If you turn Right (where the lorry is going) then turn left at the roundabout, and keep following the road striaght ahead (and turn right at the 4th roundabout i think) you will have Tesco, B&Q, McD's, BurgerKing, Wickes, Argos, Currys, ToysRus, Pubs, Cinema, Petrol Staiton and Loads of other crap!  ;D

Ohhh god... its one of them days!  :P
