I think the problem we seem to have down this part of the world is people are often suggesting "a meet" but it never gets any further...it needs somebody to say where and when and just see who turns up...then take it from there and maybe we may have the start of a meet.
Lizzy did get as far as finding a venue, but again nothing ever got of the ground.
If you are offering to book a date and place I will be there.

dunno mate but dont pick my omega up untill tommorow lol....but should start something ...on holiday for a week from the 11 sept as well but need to find some where...,what about the oakdean cafe (bottom of wrotham hill....just off of m26 jct 2)...not a wednesday as its biker (and loads of mr and mrs plod) night   :y
Title: Re: any one interested in a south east meet
Post by: amba on 04 September 2010, 07:37:02
Yes..I know that cafe well but it does get very busy with bikers even at the weekend.

But I am up for that if you want to pick a date when you come back from holiday I will be there as can work my life around most times/days.

Even if it is just the 2 of us at least we can register it as the First Kent Meet.   !! and if anybody else turns up well and good.

Good luck with your new aquisition and enjoy your holiday...see you towards end September/October.

Yes it was! ::) ::)

The venue was booked, date and time was arranged, but after much initial enthusiasm it boiled down to just one person who was definately going to turn up, with another possible.

I cancelled it all down with a week to go and I'm afraid would not bother again.

Frankly the OOF members in the north include the admins and are of greater numbers, who are more keen to meet up at a set yearly venue in less congested parts than the South East.

Best of luck to anyone who arranges a south east meet though! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Think its just a large transport type cafe..never been in before but driven past it alot and bikers use it as a meet some days.
Big parking area and easy motorway access .

Should have put a smiley after the beer comment.  I don't like to drink and drive anyway, least of all before lunch.   :)

Good to know about the speed guns.  I was pulled over for doing 30 in a 30 limit a few weeks back.  Driving the Transit at around chucking out time, the PC was very apologetic but said that the only time white van driver sticks to the limit is when he is bladdered.  Wanted to be cross but all I could do was laugh  :D

As we now seem to have a venue..a date and a time I suppose we really should start a confirmed list of those who will be attending so  we can gauge numbers.
11.00 AM ..Saturday 16th October..Oak dene cafe.

Just had a quick look at the 16th re meetings at Brands Hatch and there is a meeting on that weekend and I was wondering wether the cafe will be too busy for our meet? Don't want to pee on the parade but it would be a shame if we can't get in there,Still going to come but as I don't know the venue I was just a bit concerned.

i wound not have thought so as you would not go way past your venue to find a transport cafe when  pass 2 on your way from brands..and as touring cars are the week before wouldnt have thought the meet at brands would be that big  :y

So it appears to have happened again!

Somebody has gone to the trouble of trying to set up a meet,  as I have done in the past, and hardly anyone shows up! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

I feel sorry for those that tried, but I think you now know that Southern meets are doomed! :( :( :(

Leave the meets to The Lakes and Newent events in the main, unless 'something' changes ;) ;)

Actually I did make it today also, but I got caught up with the M26 closure and did'nt arrive until 11.30 just in time to see a silver R reg leaving(I guess that was the guys from Eastbourne? I parked between the two cars by the entrance and chilled for about an hour then had to leave had a bit of a problem back home.A real shame that only a few cars turned up but I would'nt be to dissapointed as when I went to the first Oxford meet back at the start of the year in the bitterly cold weather there were a few more cars than today but the second meet attracted better numbers. So don't give up as I for one would certainly come back as I was looking towards one of those breakfasts and good old chinwag!
