Q: would you just spray over the chrome strips then?
I don't know if they come out or not :-?
-
You'd have to buy facelift strips tbh.
They are a right bitch to get off, even more of a pig to clean the door up afterwards!
-
For info, these strips cannot be reused

Which can't be reused ? facelift ones or pre ?

Either afaik. Prefacelift certainly can't, imagine facelift similar.
You will bend them beyond repair getting them off.

Around £50 each for prefacelift

Seems to be a good trade in facelift ones on here second hand, must be a knack to getting them off or something.

Maybe the facelift ones only held on with clips in that case, rather than stuck like prefacelift :-/

Face lift are clips and a screw at each end

Took advantage of the hot weather yesterday and took all my prefacelift ones off in 5 mins ;D its true though - they are all bent from pulling them off. Just got to clean the glue off the doors before fitting the facelifts now. Dechromed the bumpers whilst i was at it.
-
If i fitted facelift door strips to my pre face lift would it not look odd unless i changed the bumpers too ?
anyone done it and got a photo?

Hey,
Well, from a stylists point of view, the pre-facelift front bumper appears to protrude out alot, whereas the facelifts looks flatter on the car. (its in reality doesnt, its a trick of the designer) But once you've taken off the chrome front and rear, I'd say it would look great!
Only thing I would say is plenty of high-build primer, or similar, to get rid of the grained surface of the original bumpers. Painted rough plastic not a good look. ;)
Have you tried looking in the gallery? I'd imaging there are several guys/gals on here that've already done it.
-
Im in the process of doing it, should look ok if you pull out the chrome strips from the bumpers. Will stick a pic up once im finished (next week probably), i eventually want to change the bumpers to irmscher or some custom ones, so should fit in even better then lol
-
Great! Oh, when you say 'pull out' the chrome trims....can you get them out without taking the colour-coded bit of the bumper off then? Or would you risk damaging the paint?
-
mines came out fine.. i just gently prised the end that has the rubber bit on it, then pulled and it all come off with no damage
