Finaly got my Omega back from Evans Halshaw. It has been hell without the car for the last 3 weeks!. How much do you think they charged ?. The work done was :
Diagnose the fault,
Fit replacement ECU and code reader(supplied by me)
Obtain car pass.
Reprogram said ECU.
Fit new Transponder chip to my key.
So How much do you think they charged?. A clue is the initial diagnosis cost £65.
I'll add a poll, and post the answer later on.

You haven't said if it is all ok now ;)
Never know with them!

It seems fine, I drove home slowly, its like getting to know a new car again!. Initially when I picked it up the tickover was a bit rough, but when I got home its nice and smooth. The ECU came off a manual car, I do hope they changed it over to be auto! ;D ;D

ive added up a resonable amount - then doubled it for my vote :y

My money's on Silly Money knowing VX dealers! ::)

Am I allowed to vote ::)

And the amount was........................ £257.97, inc VAT. :y Its either quite good if they reprogrammed the replacement ECU, or fairly bad, I mean £130 to fit a new ECU ( undo one bolt, unplug 2 connectors and lift out!), and replace the reader ( unplug one connector, lever off the old unit and the new one clicks into place). We'll never know. However it will be interesting at the next meet to get TB to plug in his Tech 2, and see what they've done. Meanwhile I am enjoying driving her again, so smooth, my butt doesn't get shaken up over the 'interesting roads' around here, and I know some people don't like the autos, but its soooo easy to drive, one pedal for stop, one for go ;D ;D ;D Back to relaxed motoring, shame I got to go to work tomorrow. ;) ;)

What was quite fun was was, the service manager originally quoted £650 plus VAT for a new ECU. I managed to buy a replacement ECU and reader for £45. He was not happy when I went into his showroom, and presented him with these bits from a scrapyard and asked him to fit them. ;D He started saying all sorts of things about how it might fail to program, and would cost me hundreds, there was no warranty, even said I should take them away and get the ECU cleared my self, he mentioned several people in Autotrader that do this. I guess dealers aren't used to customers bringing in their own parts!. ;D What will be interesting is, the quoted fault code (p0600 ?) he said meant "replace the ECU". As far as I can tell it means "replace OR reprogram ECU". One company that repairs ECU's said he felt it had lost the security code and just needed reprograming. It would be interesting to fit it back onto the car and get Tech 2 under TB's capable hands the check the security data and try reprogramming it.
