Title: Best place to buy head gasket set?
Post by: ScottieMV6 on 06 August 2009, 14:39:03
So where is the best place to buy a head gasket set for my 98 3.0 V6?

I have asked Andyc to get me a price on a Vx kit, but I have a feeling that will be expensive. Can anyone recommend anywhere else.

Also I know that there are specific types I should be looking for, what are they?

This guy is very good, he's been mentioned on here a few times and I've bought lots of stuff from him including a head gasket and valves :y

Kit includes everything :y

Best to use genuine cam cover gaskets and exhaust manifold gaskets though. :y

I only recently did the cam cover gaskets. I assume they can't be reused?

Re-use the camcover gaskets and cam seals

Get genuine manifold gaskets, coolant bridge seals, oil seals, coolant pipe to block rear seal and oil cooler sealent (might as well re-seal the cooler with the heads off).

Get the head gaskets and bolts from Trechii on ebay (call them, they will sell the bolts and gaskets on thier own).

Then its cam belt kit + water pump if required (if a fairly recent change then it can be re-used), oil, filter and antifreeze.

Oil cooler recently replaced so I assume it won't need re-doing.

Cam belt and water pump recently replaced but is it worth re doing water pump?

Scottie, make sure you re-fit the cambelt in the same rotation! I normally put the word 'TOP' and an ----> off to the right, just to be sure :y

Nah, re-use the water pump and cambelt kit. It will be fine.

The listings I have given are based on past experiance, I have done 9 of these now and its only through this experiance that I ahev found whats any good an whats not (e.g., the cam seals in the head kits are worse than the old original ones and 50% leak within 100 miles!)
