Title: lexus rough running prob...
Post by: bertiecbx550 on 27 August 2009, 22:56:02
We`ve got a lexus ls 400 v8 here at work and its running really rough and i`ve checked a couple of the plugs and they are really sooted up and when you rev it, it does not rev clean its like its misfiring or sumat...i want to take all the plugs out for the supervisor and swap em 1st but as i `ve never worked on  v8 it looks a little daunting to me....Any advice on what could cause this problem?  :-/

I have a 400 and the problem is most likely your dizzy caps and rotor arms are shot, the leads are also prone to breaking down over time. I have a set of  ignition  parts that i have never fitted to mine as it has never needed them. I bought them from the states so if your interested i might be willing to sell them on. These are very expensive from lexus/toyota so have a think and if you want get back to me.

What year is your 400 mate as mine is a 93 series one car.

It is quite a job to replace the leads as they are snaked all over the place and are in set lenghts. caps not too bad just a bit of dismantling to be done. the parts i have are gen toyota lexus items.

It is a nice car the 400 but it does suffer from front suspension bush failure, as i found out to my cost, the parts are not avalible seperatly from the upper and lower arms so i found a supplier in the states that makes poly bushes for the 400 and keeps the magic carpet ride that they are famed for. If you go to lexus for the upper arms they are about £500 each side and the lower arms are £150 each.

When i got mine the car was dangerous to drive and wanted to turn sharp left every time i hit the brakes and found that the previous owner had fitted a second hand upper arm to the near side that was from a 96 model year and was physically different to the offside

I also have a set of new front and rear shocks for it as well so if he is thinking of keeping it and wants some parts then give me a call and if i still have them we can Haggle. [In true python style.] ;D

Hmmm albs want a low mileage xj40 4.0? We`ve got 1 here that needs some tlc i.e. new wings(supplied) and the rear arches and sills replacing(common on jags) But inside its mint and its only done 56k It belonged to Sir arthur Bryant...The supervisor bought it with a view to doing it up but he aye got the time now they are giving him extra sites to watch...And to be honest if somebody offers him £500 he`ll take it...As he likes this lexus.... :y

The LS V8 is very good on fuel to be honest, it is better on fuel than my 6 cylinder 4.0 jeep cherokee, that does not know the meaning of economy. The yanks really dont like the penguins or the planet based on that. ;D ;D ;D
