Title: Beer time

Just had some fun and games with my luxobarge today.

It came with a newly fitted gen VX back box but both centre pipes had small holes where they entered the rear box.  Being a tight git, I had some gumgum and a hoseclamp holding an old bit of 'zorst in place to seal and its been fine for almost 10k miles.

...until today.

Some 'spirited' driving on country roads and noticed the rear box was hanging very low.  Turns out the pigs nose rubbers had vanished and the box was waggling in the wind and had fractured the centre pipes almost all the way through.

When home, removed the old and got 3 of the 4 cat bolts out - yup, one snapped.  Tried chiselling it out, reverse drilling it, even welding an old nut onto the remnants on the other side but it wouldn't budge.

Even straight drilling it was causing the hole centre to wander due to limited access due to the drill.

Finally managed it after finding a brand new drill bit in the drawer and lots of swearing.  Good job I had a pair of gen VX centre sections in the garage as spares....

All back together now and purring nicely, despite the rain as the afternoon progressed.....

Beer time!   ;D

And a well deserved beer :y

I'm starting to WD40 my cat to mid sections every time car is in the air, as I suspect my zorst will be replaced in the next few months  :'(

Thought you would have used penetrating fluid ? :-/ ;)

I would if it needed doing quickly, by find WD40 isn't too bad if you give it a lot of time and regular doses.  Plus its dirt cheap from the cash and carry ;D

I only use the freezer type penetrating fluids if I'm in a hurry

Good job H21 :y :y Always good when you achieve something that saves you a few quid :)

Gotta agree TB, given a few applications & a while, WD40 is good stuff for releasing rusted seized parts :y

Cheap and cheerfull WD40, love the stuff, would drink it if I could, but I think I'll stick to the beer as well. ;D ;D
