....We given what happened today with the keyeing of the car, went and asked for a quote to repair the damage on one side and do the rest of the car aswell, in the same colour, quotes came through this afternoon:
Insurance work: Labour: £581.25 Paint:-£300.00 total £881.25 excl VAT.
Rest of Car: Labour:- £1,425.00 Paint:- £600.00 total: £2,025.00
Overall total: £2,906.25

Mine cost me £1,200.00 for the whole car 2 years ago.

Yes I know Jim, but last January they apparantley changed the paint to water based for car re-sprays, but as you can see the main cost as usual in in labour. It's also about hundred quid less than the quote from the Essex garage for a respray.

as a novice painter , there may be small advices that I can give..
#1 before you let your baby in someone's hands, spend serious time to see "ADVICED" painters works and their shops and environment (ie heated spray cabin)..Thats the most critical point.. as its not important how much you pay, you will get a fix job from a painter related to his job style and quality..
#2 many parts must be taken out if you want a proper job.. check the job phases and if possible sleep with them ;D
#3 for a good quality job old paint and laquer must be cleared with sanding as much as possible..and talk to them to paint without a base coat if possible..(if the old paint was perfect as seen in pictures no base coat is necessary.. the scratches can be cleared with sanding.. The reason is extra layers (if they dont sand it properly usually is the case) will make paint thick and the flying stones on the road will chip the paint very easy..
#4 and if possible ask them for special types of laquer which is a bit stronger than normal types... and have the laquer painted 1-2 layer more in flat surfaces (not vertical there may flow) .. Although the strong laquer is hard to polish in the final phase its worth it..

That sounds right for the price of the paint.But the only reason it cost so much for the painting is cuz of the prep that goes into it.I do it for aliving and if someone wants something painted cheap they do the prep as that will make it from 1400 to paint it down to like 400 to paint it
