I have asked this question before but cant remeber the reply I had...
My 2001 MV6 never had a rear spoiler fitted and before you ask it wasn't a former police car.
It just dont look right to me..
Any suggestions?
-
Take the MV6 badge off it ::)
-
And replace it with GLS perhaps? :-?
-
rear end damage?? ::)
-
All looks genuine plus I had a report done prior to purchase ( thats no guarantee I know) If it was a rear end bump in its past surely replacing the spoiler would hide the fact?
-
meybe someone who was buy this car new from dealer ask to take off, hi dont like :-/
-
It wouldn't have been taken off. It wasn't fitted to the boot lid at all as there would be screw holes at the ends and evidedence of adhesive tape. It would have been a standard fit though I would have thought???
-
but if you buy brand new car and you say you dont want spolier they probaly use different boot . :D
-
But no normal person would request not to have a spoiler fitted.. It'd be like asking the main dealer not to colour co-ordinated the bumpers as you like them matt black

I have heard of people speccing far weirder stuff that "No Spoiler"
As above, I think someone just ordered it new without one......
:y
-
Well I gotta get one as it looks incomplete.
hard to believe any muppet would not get one if its a standard fit....
-
There could be a million and one possibilities really, as mentioned rear end damage that wasn't recorded so wouldn't appear on a hpi check. Much easier to replace with simple non spoiler bootlid. I could be mistaken but, I don't think there are drill holes attaching it, just some form of adhesive. So could have simply been removed. If you think, a rear spoiler could be worth £75-£100 and if the previous owner didn't really care for it...make sense to sell it. Or as said could've been specced without it. Does it have the MV6 front bumper?
-
Lip spoilers aren't screwed on. Don't think they are available any more (seem to recall that the supplier was ProDrive in Banbury), which may explain why it hasn't been replaced if it has been damaged
-
In reply to Josh's comment about the MV6 front bumper. it has the usual rectangle fog lamps with the black louvered panel running between and has the headlamp washers. not sure of any other types to be honest but someone here would know. It must have been either supplied without or had a replacement bootlid ( chances of getting one in the same colour surley would be difficult in Gold) No signs of any scratches due to it being prised off..
-
i know of at least one other mv6, a 3.2 infact, that also has no spoiler. Just wasnt fitted.
-
Cheers Chris. what is the difference between an MV6 front bumper and all the others? it was brought up earlier thats all?

MV6 facelift bumper AND rear spoiler was designed by Prodrive, and is a slightly smarter design than all the others.....in my opinion.....
Under the right hand side of the rear spoiler there is a PRODRIVE stamp

My MV6

The front bumper on mine is different than on the MV6 shown above. mine is a 2001 ( Jan) did they change to this style after a certain date?
-
The difference between the MV6 bumper and standard is there is a colour coded part between the fog lights and the centre grill part. I apologise for such an awful explanation. But a standard bumper has a black grill running un-interrupted between the two fog lights, whereas the MV6 bumper has a colour coded part between the fog lights and the centre grill part. I believe all facelift MV6's had the same bumper from inception of the range. Does yours have wood or silver interior trim?

Mine was registered 1st March 2001 mate

Mine is on an X plate. would this make any difference?
It has the standard rectangle fogs and has the black plastic louverd grille type thing running between.

That is the standard Mig bumper mate, and that combined with the lack of rear spoiler is confusing me.....Does it say its MV6 on your logbook.....??
Sounds like a non civvy one to the untrained ear.....?!!

Age shouldn't make any difference, as far as I know all MV6's from the start had the special MV6 bumper. Do you have wood or silver interior trim? All MV6's had silver trim, that's another way to tell.
-
just seen an Elite with the same grille as mine?
the plot thickens........

Mine has standard MV6 wheels on it, are yours the same.....??
-
silver trim throughout. logbook says MV6 too.
No sunroof, Manual gearbox, leather interior....
-
MV6 wheels. unless I'm mistaken the rear discs are vented also. not seen that before.

silver trim throughout. logbook says MV6 too.
No sunroof, Manual gearbox, leather interior....
Can you post up a pic of it, or pm me the reg and I will check it on HPI for you?

Are the seats sports seats? All I can think of really is that someone asked for different bumper and no spoiler, there are some picky people about.

Set yourself up a photobucket account or similiar and upload pictures to there. You can then copy the 'img' code to a post here and it will appear in your post :y

Well, its MV6 on HPI, DVLA and Autodata....
Its got MV6 wheels although not front bumper or rear spoiler....
Looks like leather sport seats inside and MV6 chrome door badges....
Looks like its sitting on MV6 lowered suspension.....
I say MV6 without a doubt now.....just unusually specced
:y :y

Cheers for that webby. its not outside my house by the way it was taken by the bloke that sold its house..

Spoke to the garage that this vehicle was first serviced at at 10k ( I assumed this was the dealership it was bought from but turned out not to be the case).
They tell me its not unheard of for some vehicles to suffer from a " Mis-build " during manufacturing. Some cars on occasions end up with things like spoilers or a sunroof for example. He says mine " could" be one that had a spoiler missing and a standard front bumper and not MV6 fitted. Doesn't explain why the main agent and the new owner didn't put it right. Will I ever get to the bottom of this I wonder?

Ordinarily, I'd say it was down to the first owner wanting a bit of subtlety - like people putting TDi bumpers and bootlid on an Octavia vRS... but Joe Public wouldn't be able to spot an MV6 from a GLS anyway IMHO...
-
My MV6 has no rear spoiler, wood interior trim and an Elite style front bumper. It has sports seats and lowered suspension though, and every other part of the spec. is right for an MV6. History is clean and I've done a reasonable amount of digging around on it and no reason to suspect anything is not original (not until I drove it anyway :'( ).
When I had to change the front bumper due to an embedded motorbike, the spec was checked against the VIN and confirmed that it left the factory with an Elite style bumper (good job IMO cos I don't like the facelift MV6 one).
It seems that the spec did vary a bit. The owner history of my car does suggest it was pre-reg by Vauxhall as it has them briefly as 1st owner. Maybe they didn't fit the lower volume MV6 panels to such vehicles to cut costs?
Anyway, it doesn't appear to be unusual, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

And yet he opted for leather interior though. If your right the first owner needs his head looking at.. :(
-
Sorry Kevin I made my last comment before I read yours. I'm happy enough with not having the front bumper but I would like to fit a spoiler thouggh. Just me being picky. Good to know there are others out there with an unusual spec..
-
I agree they look better with the spoiler, I want one on my CDX but funds will not allow for quite some time.
