My first question is to find out what type of paint it is, then try & find something to fetch it off.

A very high pressure/hot jetwash ? :-/

True, but I cant think of a gentle/careful way that wont take a month of sundays. :-/

I'd like to know were his head was when he decided to paint it, it's flaking like hell. All future work will be a pain in arse. Paint in oil, coolant etc
-
I would try a brush and some paint thinner (weak one)
if you can strip the engine from the hoses :-/

Lord alone knows !!! Hasten to emphasise it came like that!!!
Hoses will all be replaced, hoping a wire brush might see to the gearbox , block and manifold. Haven't taken the air cleaner off yet --- but it looks like he's sprayed the carb as well !!!!
Seriously thinking it might be easier to just replace the whole engine.

Could start with a thick coating of nitromors and then see what is still stuck to it after you have washed it off. :y
-
Actually -- thinking about it -- over time while I am stripping the rest of the car .... might invest in one of those cheapie portable sand blaster things .... generally only good for tiny jobs -- but I will be only doing a few square inches at a time .... take months tho !

l would not use paint stripper in there mainly because its not very friendly to some plastics (it eats some of them ) been there done that :-[
If its flaking off its not going to be to hard to get off best bet would be a pressure washer I would suggest cover any ecu type bits with plastic bags and cable ties and have some WD40 type spray handy just in case :y

agreed.. paint strippers are very hard to control and if jumps to other parts you are in trouble.. (used many times with masking)

"Hello is that Nitromors?.......How much for a tanker full?"
;D
TBH if it's starting to flake already then a hot jet wash should get the worst off! Just cover the electricals!

;D ;D ;D I have a gallon or two of Por-strip in the garage -- really powerful stuff on panels, but it would also take out anything plastic .... so is a no-no :o :o

Come to think of it -- I can park it in Bridgie and they remove the engine for me ::)
