£200 is scrap value, get about £600-800 if its tax & mot'd up
-
That offer is an insult. They've offered you a rock bottom price so they can't mark it up when it's on their forcourt.
Private sales usually fetch more than any other option.
In a trade in they'll give you a decent price because they'll have made a packet on the one they're selling you, usually purchased from the auctions.

You can halve that for scrap value, currently around £50.00 a tonne

Shames you're in HerTfordshire not HerEfordshire-we'd have had it!!
Stick it on ebay, you'll get £500+++ :y
I've bought and sold dozens on there...

i would offer it on here, piston heads, autotrader and fleabay, with the last one state on your auction that it is advertised elsewere and may be removed at any time, i would go for £600-£700 reserve on ebay myself and advertise it for £700 o.n.o

Have also used free ads on www.carandclassic.com to good effect.
Present it well and get all the paperwork in a nice folder! :y

It's worth more than £200 to someone to strip it.
Shame though if its a runner.

All depends on the year, condition etc. Engine might only have 70k but box & diff have done 140k+

Dealers allways try it on, but it is allways best to try and sell privately. When you do, go back to the same dealer, go for the same car, then offer him the same price as you were going to pay with the P/X @£200 and then offer him the same ammont and knock £200, effectivly making the car £400 cheaper overall, be prepaered to call his bluff and turn away saying you have seen annother caer cheaper, less miles etc.
You probably end up driving home in the new car. ;D

Just been following a 1994 Omega Elite on ebay, no tax but has MOT, scratched and bumper hanging off. I was going to bid £200 myself but it went over that price before I got my bid in. It sold for £360. I was going to break it up if I got it at my price.

You put masses of work into that car didn't you?
Did you buy it to sell or to keep?
-
hi rob looks like i will be keeping it now
-
Why, what's caused you to change your mind?

6-800 seems like a good price, i wish i could get that much for mine
-
cant afford another car yet moving house instead
-
Now that puts expense into a whole new perspective dosn't it!
I walked into town early this morning & passed a large estate agents showroom where they were obviously having a meeting before opening time. All those bright young chaps smartly dressed. Lined up outside were the same number of BMWs, all except one were identical 3's, and a 5 which I guess was the bosses car.

At the end of the day it is horse trading on the cost of the car you want to buy - if it is keenly priced and you do not want the hassle of selling it yourself and you do not get any money off for not having part ex . I have been through this several times - 2 years ago when I bought the Signum - I paid £9000 plus a 6 year old Focus Zetec 1.6 with 70000 miles for a 2 month old signum 1.9cdti with 2000 miles on the clock. Who knows the relative worth of either vehicle - Perry's did not even look at the Focus and relied totally on what I had told them re FSH etc etc which was totally genuine of course, plus the reg document
