Title: WET INTERIOR
Post by: MIKE72 on 15 November 2009, 13:07:09
Hi everybody,
This is my 1st post on any forum so be patient.
I woke up this morning, not having driven the car for 2 days to find the front and rear passenger foot wells 1/2 " deep in water. Problem found to be a drain hole in well where the pollen filter is located in engine comparment. Difficult to clean as it was at bottom of 6" of water, syphoned water out and found the outlet is a smallish hole to the front of the grommet. This also relates to a drip coming from what I thought was from the air con at the end of a journey, but now realise it was a slow drip from the blocked drain.
All cleaned out, now trying to dry out the carpets.

well known issue is the blocked scuttle drain, keep it clear or you will be replacing your heater matrix  :y

Happens unfortunately .. :(

Just ensure you not only dry the carpets, but the gurt wodge of soundproofing material under them as well, if you don't in a few weeks your car will stink as bacteria flourish in the damp ... and its a bugger to get rid of the smell once it starts.

If you can get hold of a de-humidifier it might be worth leaving one running in the car for 48 hours or so ..

I had this last year and although I didn't have deep puddles of water in the footwells I had the windows misting up, I was unaware of the problem and as I ran the fan to try and clear the windows it was of course sucking in moisture from the water trapped in the blocked scuttle and therefore exasperating the misting problem rather than clearing it!!

This time of year it's worth cleaning the scuttle every couple of weeks, I use my wet and dry vaccum cleaner with a long piece of pipe to suck out all the leaves and tree debris and then flush it with a bit of boiling water.

Sadly I am not technical enough to provide a link to the "how to" but well worth looking for it on here, really easy job when you know where your looking  :y

I had this many years ago on my 2.5 estate. As mentioned the passenger scuttle fills up with leaves etc. I pushed a long stick down and pushed out a rubber bung which enlarged the drain hole-never had another problem. Also did the same to a neighbours Omega.
