Title: Insignia
Post by: Andy B on 29 November 2009, 00:35:31
I followed an Insignia home from work this evening  for the last mile or two. I didn't recognise as one to start with.
It was being driven 'enthusiastically' and as he/she braked hard-ish for corners/roundabouts/etc the brakes lights started to flash quite rapidly! :-?  :-?
What the idea suposed to be behind this lastest thing?

some Astras do that i've noticed. Usually some knob on the M4 weaving through traffic getting nowhere and stressing everyone out.

On the motorway it means the driver is a cock and cant controle his throttle to keep a half decent distance from the car in front and his abs is banging away while i press the sport mode button to slow down and watch from a distance then block the donkey in a mile further up the road. Sorry rant over.

Means emergency braking i beleive.

That's what I thought, but had never seen it before.
I've since found this ..... http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/grouptests/235766/vauxhall_insignia.html which mentions it in passing.  :y  :y
As you say, if you're far enough behind, then if the car in front has to stop quick-ish, you don't need 'I'm braking really really hard brake lights' and just normal brake lights will do. You'd think though, that car manufactureres would decide between themelves wheher they're going to use flashing brighter brake/stop lamps or flash the indicators when the ABS triggers.  :y

I was in the diseasal shed!  ;D   ;D  ;D  ;D but surprisingly I kept up!  ::)  ::) It's amaazing how hard you can chuck it into a corner & it'll go roughly in the direction you want it to. FWD is easy ... just point the driven wheels & the rest will follow!  ;)  ;)  ;)

Astra G and H are quite nimble in the corners without being as hard a ride as the likes of the Focus

Me and the old boy are off to Milbrook this coming Saturday 5th for a day out testing the NEW Astra......

Cant believe they have replaced the current one so soon, and its not just a facelift I think it looks totally different inside and out....

Should be fun, last one we did was testing Jaguars around Silverstone !!!!

Was following a Signum about a year ago and that had the same thing. He was hammering it and braking hard for the corners and the lights were lit up like a christmas tree. He pulled away like a train on the straights but I just reeled him in at the corners, well I was in a car world renowned for its handling prowess................A Toyota Corolla Verso 1.8 ;D ;D ;D

It's when they're braking hard, give people behind an extra warning apparently, like my old BM if you braked hard an extra 2 brake lights would come on  :y

Worked at JIT supplier for VX fot a few weeks. The Astra is the full DB. I drove 1600 deisel, it was a bullet. Cornered on a rail, it has a cantilever system on the axle that forces the lifting wheel down on the road when taking a corner. The inside is the full DB too. Brilliant car!! Wouldn't have one tho' to small, its a mini Insignia! Lovely car. VX will do well with this one. Rarther have my Omega tho'. :y

i might be wrong but i think the flashing brake light started life as a chav-mod many years ago, before being used properly by manufacturers. I remember seeing one on a nova as a child and was told that there was a ball bearing set-up inside so harsh braking caused it to roll forward far enough to complete the flashing circuit, my brother then had it done to his lexus 2 years ago

Bit like those white LEDs without an "off" setting that Audi are now fitting... ::)
