Someone I know has an MV6 auto saloon. It runs well and is the same year as mine (1999)its got a 3.0 auto. I've got a 2.5v6 estate with a manual box. Since I replaced the TPS and adjusted the throttle cable, its felt really quick. In fact, to me it feels quicker than his slush box. We were on a quiet section of the A45 and happen to pull alongside each other so we gunned it (legally of course) niether one of us could pull away from the other. In the end, I chickened out because I'm not a racer. I checked the performance stats and it reckons mine does 0-60 in 8.2 and the MV6 is 8.0. I think that mine would be quicker on the twisty bits too so I'm throwing down the question, what do we think is the quickest. (Excluding the police issue 3.2 manual)

3.0 auto v 2.5 manual...
3.0 auto suffers (like all Omega autos) with long gears, which makes it sluggish from standing start
From standing start, 2.5 quicker to around 30mph, then the 3.0 auto gets on song.
Both similarish to 60mph (both can manage sub 8s if you try), but as said earlier, the bigger engine has the legs once rolling.
At the top end, the 2.5 starts to run out of puff at about 120mph, needing a lot of room to start winding it up beyond that. The 3.0 auto runs out of puff once it pops into top gear at 130mph, needing room to wind it up beyond that.

I've seen between 135 and 140 in mine too, and it's a 2.6 wagon.
Naturally, on my personal track, you understand...........
How accurate the speedo is, I really don't know!

Supposedly 3mph optimistic throught the complete range (electronically driven by pulses from ABS sensors on rear half shafts) unless you have non-standard wheels fitted.....

3.0 cams should make a quicker 2.5 :D

My GLS was showing an indicated 120 mph in 3rd (Auto) when it passed a volvo T5 on a private test track, the light box lit up and told me to slow down as I was doing 118 mph. The T5 was stationary.
