hi guys whats the american version of the omega called ?
or what american GM cars use the same engine as the 2.5?
cheers
-
Its the Catera :y
-
awesum now to see if i can hunt down a massive alternator for my mig i assume the wiring the same ?
-
Dont know the exact details on engines and wiring.
They certainly have different dashboards, and different ECU's as they are limited iirc.
-
what makes you think american alternators are more powerful?
Souce an ex-plod one from the UK, they have beefier ones than standard
-
there are lot more aftermarket high output alternator builders and when you enquire they have never heard of an omega but will more than likely have a listing for a catera or can build one for me
-
mention the 3.0, not sure if the 2.5 was sold in the Cadillac Catera
-
yea doesnt seem they do the 2.5 only 3.0 block id assume the mountings are the same ?
-
Variations of the same V6 engine (sometimes with increased capacity) were (and I think still are) available on other Cadillac models.
-
well just a quick update on this for people who may want a bigger alternator i hopefully may well of sourced a bolt on 250a alternator from the catera bags of juice !! ;D
-
I was going to ask why - but see from pics that its for audio?
-
yea its for my new system thats being built in an omega estate the standard 120amp alternator wouldnt cut the mustuard to charge the batterys :o
-
So, 120 amps x 12volts = 1440 watts of input power,and 250 amps is 3kw !
I take it you wont be driving when this "device" is in full swing ::)
-
no way would be too difficult to drive with an alternator that big on load will put quite a strain on the engine and also the volume output can make things diffidult to see
the voltage on the regualtor will be set at 15 volts :)
-
I wish I'd seen this earlier, you can have your current one rewound to whatever spec you like but I also have a 250amp one sitting in my garage from my Chevy v8 you could have had for £50. You just need to switch over the pulley on it.

any pics of it ? id more than likely be interested ;D
