My brother in law has just bought an `02 reg 2.2 Vectra with 67k mileage and full service history. Car seems fine but advert said new cam chain fitted recently. I assumed the seller meant cambelt not chain. Anyway, the engine has a noisy top end and i don`t know wether it could be valve lifters or camshaft. I would have thought if the car has been serviced regulary, 6 dealer stamps in the book last one at 62k, it shouldn`t have a noisy top end. Is this a common problem with this 2.2 engine? I have seen a few 2.2 Omegas around with a lot higher mileage and these seem fine. He has tried adding some Forte treatments but to no avail.

Does the Veccy 2.2 not have a chain, instead of a belt, IIRC?
-
Confused now...ha ha. It`s a 2.2 petrol by the way.
-
Mmmm... could be chain as no belt kit on my firm`s list just tensioners.
-
Different lump to an Omega....when the chain was changed was it a full kit with tensioners and guides
-
Thanx Mark. Thought they may have been same lump. Brother in law still waiting for all the receipts from the seller. He only got the service book plus the usual audio and model book in the folder with the car pass card with radio code etc. The seller has the receipts for work carried out he says and is posting them on. He was told chain changed by main dealer as well as oil and filter change as well as new disc pads.
