Title: Corsa head gasket?
Post by: Tonka. on 21 January 2010, 16:32:56
Wifes Corsa 1.4 8v 1998

Symptoms:
Mayo in the filler neck
Almost empty expansion bottle

Had a new HG fitted May 2008 when we bought it  ::)

I have refilled the expansion bottle and run the car up to temp. It runs smoothly. No sign of coolant leaks.  :y

On start up it does run a little rough  :-/

Does it sound like the HG?

If so can you recommend a supplier and any thoughts on the job. Bearing in mind I have never done a HG before  ::) ::) :y

Unlikely the HG, the favourite on those is the timing chain gasket. Pop the waterpump off and feel through the opening for flapping bits of rubber from the gasket. Also try draining the oil into a clean, clear pot (tupperware or the like) and leave it 10 mins to settle. The coolant will seperate from the oil if it is getting in through the timing chain gasket.

About 5 hours work to strip it all out and replace. HTH :y
