All,
Just wanted to thank Tunnie - he was at my place earlier today to replace camsensor. Unfortunately, the shipped part was of the wrong one (I ordered the right one but the part shipped appears to be different) so he had to put the whole thing back in this crap weather.
Given the crap weather & fading light - he did a great job and I cannot thank him and the forum enough for all the help.
I look forward to having the correct spare delivered before eventually replacing the sensior.
Thanks a ton, Tunnie - much appericiated. Look forward to some good weather and a nice drink next time around :y :y

No problem :y
I did wonder why they supplied that leccy loom connector in the box, now you have photos of the correct style, let me know when you have the right one.
One for the experts - The sensor going crazy got, came with a leccy loom plug (totally different to whats on the car) it looked like they expected you to solder the new plug in :o
Given my wiring skills, i decided to put it back together and await the correct part ;D

Three cheers for tunnie, hip hip

Good to note, you reached safely. :y :y
I have figured it out - I was supplied with the wrong part i.e. the original camsensor was replaced with a new part and I have been suppiled with a different part.
Will order the correct one tomorrow and hopefully it is here for the weekend:-)
Thanks again for all your help. :y :y

Are you sure its the wrong part. I believe the later 2.0 has an newer sensor which requires a new loom ;)
-
Just noticed its a 95 car so it I could be wrong.

Well its the correct part then.....you have to solder the new loom section in.
The old part number was subject to a supersession and hence why it comes with a new short length of loom.
You will also find that the original loom connector boot will be buggered re-enforcing the need to splice the loom in.

Had my cam sencor replaced a couple of years back, the loom had to cut and the new one joined to it.

Thought I should leave a thread with some research for the benifit of other member down the line
----------------------------
Cam sensor: Research for a 2.0 ltr pre-facelift
For a Vauxhall pre-facelift 2.0 litre simtec engine there are 3 cam-sensor available in the market. Listed below are the 3 with their part numbers (hope this helps any one else having the problem in the future)
Part number: 90458252 – This was the original cam sensor which came with you car & your car should still have this type if the cam-sensor was never replaced. This one comes with a square ends and will fit without any soldering of looms being required. VX do not sell this part any longer by OEM parts are widely available at the time of writing (Feb- 2010). Pattern parts are not recommended as they are unreliable. This is the least preferred alternative as the loom might have worn out as well and can fail yet is the simplest solution to keep you going in the short term.
Part Number: 93171450 – This part was the upgrade & replaced the original cam-sensor. If you car ever had a cam-sensor replaced professionally then you might have this part on your car. This comes with a short wiring loom & has round corners. This is the new type of cam-sensor and the short length of wiring loom needs to be soldered on the existing wiring loom. If you aren’t handy with soldering you might want to consider this being done professionally. VX no longer supplies this part either (oh, yes). OEM parts are widely available the time of writing (Feb- 2010). Pattern parts are not recommended as they are unreliable. This is the cheapest alternative to upgrade to the newer version of the cam-sensor and has the advantage of your wiring loom being replaced as well i.e. less cause of failure
Part Number: 9201903 & 24445139 – These are VX’s latest take on the cam-sensor for your beloved car. One of the part numbers is a wiring loom and the other the actual sensor. If your car still has the original cam-sensor and you are keen on replacing it with VX supplied parts you will have to pay for the 2 and can buy them from a VX dealer at the time of writing (Feb – 2010). The wiring loom here is longer in length (not quite sure why) and needs to be soldered on like the intermediate part number (93171450). This is the most expensive way of replacing your cam-sensor but you are expected to get piece of mind and some reliability back into you car. Pattern parts are not recommended as they are unreliable
Now, back to problem in hand – I was supplied ‘93171450’ when I actually ordered ‘90458252’ (per above mine are OEM parts – Siemens) called the supplier and he replies “we assumed you would want to upgrade to the new version and hence supplied this part- we were expecting your call”. Now this assumption was made after I called them and specially mentioned I am ordering the old one :'(. Requested sensor (old part number) is on its way and I should have it in the next couple of days! :y :y
Hope this helps!

I know this is an old thread but just need to update and close this thread off.
------------------------------------
I finally had the correct part delivered and fitted last week (13th Feb) and I need to signoff by thanking Tunnie once more as he had to do the job twice (remember the first time around incorrect spare was delivered). Tunnie did not complain and being a nice bloke did not accept extra payment for twice the planned work he had to do :y :y :y
OOF is a success :y :y

No problem, all still running well i hope? :y
