Title: Registration Plate Cloning

Anyone see that TV programme last night about plate cloning?  Some unsuspecting internet posters were matching vehicles posted on the web and copying the same plates then doing "jobs", illegal parking and zone violations, and the registered owner was receiving the fine, leaving the owners open to prosecution  :-[

This has been going on for years but we should be careful when posting photos, but couldn't "they" just simply stand at the side of the road taking numbers anyway? Our registration plates are there for all to see...

That is exactly why i blank mine plates in the pictures :y
If your going to break the law in a particular type of car then were better to find a reg # than on a car forum :(

I didn't see the prog, but my brother had his plates stolen off his motor. It costs money in most cases to clone, but to nick someone elses only takes a screwdriver. The plod have been promoting the use of tamper proof screws around Northampton recently which is a good idea.With about £14 per plate to replace and the added aggro that goes with proof of ownership etc,it's an added incentive! :y

I saw the prog. Was quite impressed with the Swedish system tbh. Only one factory that stamps out the plates, there only sent to the registered owners address, and have the cars VIN number stamped on too.
