Just as i was getting coverd in oil durt and grees it dound on me the last car i had to do work on was over ten years ago. Then it was simple, I had a 2l sierra and an xr4i + the 4x4 ok these were a litle harder than the 2l but evan then hardly no sensers as xr`s had MFI and the 2l twin cam just riped it out and replace with the pinto enjine useing carbs and points out of cortina(or whatever). So in all im on a big lerning curve with the runing of the enjines now'
So just wondering when was your last project car and when?
Pleas remove if this has already been asked.
Thank you

The 81 was only a 4.9 turbo & only produced 210bhp. Strangled by emission controls.
I had a 1992 5.7 GTA which was a totally different animal & i loved the speed "a little too much"

I have had a few projects
73 Saab 95V4
1978 Fiat 126 650
79 Alfasud ti
78 Allegro
1986 2CV
1988 2CV
1990 2CV
Loved the '88 2CV-drove it to Geneva, Rome, Venice, Prague, Amsterdam in two weeks when I finshed it-no faults!
-
Is the 2CV the one with the manual adjustable headlights?
-
Is the 2CV the one with the manual adjustable headlights?
Yes a much better design than other cars-the adjuster was a simple rod with a thread on it, controlling the light bar.
Wonderful things :y

My one and only project car:
Started off as something resembling a climbing frame in the back of a van 11 years ago almost to this day.

Maybe its just my particular car, but I am much slower in my Omega than even my old 1.0 litre front hatchbacks on my commute-it is less confidence inspiring, heavy and fills the lane meaning you have to always stop if coaches come the other way and you have no manouevering space in the width of the lane to be able to take the best line and get the speed up.
A 1248cc diesel mulitjet Panda would surprise many-ignore posted 0-60 (its for insurance ratings!), very few cars (except a few above ;D ;D) ever kept with me in that down the lanes.
I supposed it is what I am used to-my mate has a Westfield and that it ballistic ;D

It was a mistake to sell & i should've kept her :'( :'(

My current Omega. Had it for 10 years, 5 months and 4 days and 23 hours (approx). Not so much a project, more a vocation.
Its condition has got worse to match mine. Bets are on to see which one pegs first.

Mine was an older beemer 325i E36.
Bought if from a friend, the engine was running like new even after 200 000 miles but interior was a complete disaster, and some scratches were on one door from the outside. But the paint was like new cause it was always stored in the garage and never had a accident.
Remade an interior, drove it for 6 months for free cause it was MOT-ed just before I bought it. And then sold it and earned some 500 pounds ;)
Those cars still fetch really high prices here

Hi Jim,
To buy the Merc CLS it was 25K - we then spent 13k repairing it, using genuine parts - we saved labour costs by doing all the dismantling and re-fitting ourselves (3 of us), we also done an Aston Martin V12 - none of us are mechanics and we learnt as we went.
I am now looking for my next project for this summer :)

Well haven't really got my teeth into a car project properly for some years now. Got plans for my Omega now, just collecting some parts for it, then spending weekend (which may go on into a week !) some day soon I hope.
But 20yrs ago, I was messing about in my youth, and when cars were far easier to work on than they are now, I bought an old Mk2 Capri 3.0 GT that was fit for the scrapheap body wise, and used the engine & gearbox and put it in a Mk4 Cortina, & then smartened up the bodywork a little.
Yes it may look a little lame now, but remember this would of been 20yrs ago (god I feel old now !).
And I know where talking about cars, but I'm also into motorbike to, and rebuilt a very rare Moto Guzzi V1000 convert (automatic).
Here's what it looked like when I got it
(http://i999.photobucket.com/albums/af113/om3g22tf/Guzzi1.jpg)
And how it looked a year later, though it was last seen in the Hull area about three years ago, don't know even if it's on the road still ?
Though currently got a Harley Trike which I'm trying to sell, and got a project idea regarding a MV6 Estate ?. Though not sure if I'll actually go through with it just yet, as doing some research.

See if you can spot the theme in this lot.
Finished this last year
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/theend012.jpg)
And this is how it started off
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/day6017.jpg)
and how it came back from being dipped and E coated
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/bodyshell021.jpg)
i also manage this one
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/theend005.jpg)
This is my daily drive ( the missis has the Omega???) Nova has now only done 48000 miles
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/PICT0003.jpg)
I've now got the front end of this out rwady to be blasted and new front panels fitted, yes its on German plates, been brought over for the work
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/th_senator001.jpg) (http://s178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/?action=view¤t=senator001.jpg)
This is my next project. 1970 Opel GT if you were wondering
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/GT001.jpg)
The car in the fore ground i get each winter. Last year i fitted OE A/C to the car, this year its axels over haul.
Also this picture shows the only three Mantas in the UK with factory Air Con.
Also i have my owen Manta to build which is getting a manual V6, the Omega and a Mk3 Cavalier thats tucked away in another lock up.
So just a few jobs to do
Andy

2001 jeep cherokee which i stil have, bought it with a blown motor, the block was cracked the entire length of the crank case just under the exhaust manifold. The previous owner had a new radiator fitted and the garage did not refil it with antifreeze and it froze solid and bang went the block.
I sourced a replacement engine from a grand cherokee with 58,000 miles and dropped it into car. refitted the lpg system and fired up first time.
LUVERLY JUBBLY. ;D
-
I suppose it would be LPGing the current Omega :-/ :-/ Not really a project though :-? :-?
I do also have SWMBO's 1993 Mini Cooper sat on the drive... It's not been on the road for about 8 years now but I'm planning a full rebuild :y :y :y
It's already had a lot of engine work and has a 1380 HiTorque Rover Conversion :y :y
Just need to find a lockup to do the work in ;) ;)

I suppose the 2.6 CD could be classed as one as well

Which member is it thats putting a 3.0 V6 in a Scimitar, that was looking like a very interesting project, anyone know how he's doing with it.
Ahh, that will be me then, sorry, only just seen this post. The Scimitar was finished May last year, scares the poop out of me and is great fun. That 3L is a gorgeous engine and sounds lovely over 4000. The Scimitar is only 1200KG's so with the 3L v6 it really pushes you back in your seat. Top speed so far tested at Mallory park was 135mph before I had to slow for the corners, best bit was that was in 4th I still had another gear to go. ;D
It got a 6 page article in Practical Performance Car magazine in I think the October edition. I took it off the road for winter, and to add some more bits to it. I'm currently transferring the multi info display and ABS/TC system. This will also then give me a proper speed signal to run the speedo. I've still got the old police estate and am still picking bits out of it, I'm definitely experienced with the intimacies of the wiring diagrams now. That Bosch 2.8.1 ECU doesn't need all that much to make it happy and report no fault codes, simple little thing really. I've got the multi info display running on my bench at the moment, complete with the light fault (current sensing) unit.
Plenty of space for cam belt changes, I need to look at it again though as it squeaks on the back of the belt where it runs over the sprung loaded tensioner when cold, only once per belt revolution? Any thoughts?
This is what I mean by intimate.
Looks at home in there doesn't it?
It's sat as low as I dare in the chassis, and the entire engine is set back behind the centre of the front axle.
The Scimitar was an auto so I had to fit the Omega clutch pedal assembly and master cylinder. It's a nice light clutch on the Omega, I was very pleased.
I also had to modify the bulkhead to get the engine to fit, so while I was at it I added a removable panel to allow access to the back of the engine for coil pack replacement and other maintenance. Also makes bell housing bolts easy to access.
Cheers
Nath

Thats a nice job on the scimatar.....it does fit well!
And Andy, I have to say I love the Mantas, so much better than the Capris of the same era. Man father also has a GT at the dealership he works at (Aston - Melton)
I guess the last project I did was Mick Dundees engine work.
Although of couse there is the locomotive to.....and the next project which which will be starting soon is the little Fordson Dexta tractor.....so watch out you pikey van owners on the single track section of the A52 as I intende to reap my revenge and piss you lot off for once!
-
My next project is going to be a MK1 Golf GTI, it's going to have either a VR6 or Audi TT 225 engine, not decided yet, still doing research.
VR6 as it's a V6 not a four pot like the TT engine, mounting it will be interesting(engine into the car that is)
My project is the daily battle keeping my Omega roadworthy ;D
