Really torn as to what to do, LPG tank wise.
Even if I raise the boot floor in the estate by 7cm, which is hell of a lot - I will only get a 45/50litre usable capacity with a toriodal tank - which is rubbish on a thirsty V6 (whoops, let that one slip).
The only reason I own an Estate, is to cart two medium size dogs about.
Much of my driving in the summer months will be long distance - some of which will be european this year, and I really do need a decent range. I also need to bear in mind, that I NEED to carry a spare tyre at all times. I've been stranded with a shreded tyre in remote locations before - never again thanks!) - so I think a toroidal tank is out of the question.
I am, therefore, giving serious consideration to mounting a cylinder tank in the boot of an Estate - I know it's not the norm, but, I think for my purposes, it may well best suit?
What are your opinions?
And also - say I mounted a 400mm width tank, would you consider there to still be a fair bit of boot space?
Undecided here :-/

alternative is to fit torpedo tank length wise, rather than across the back. On either passenger or drivers side. Gives practically to put seats flat, dogs will still have good space
-
question is....whats the minimum space the dogs need, and then whats left?

hard to mount though like that arent they? turn to a missile in a crash...

Strapped down should be fine, no worse than if it was set across. Strapped down my tank is not going anywhere.
Should be ok to mount, filler feed

Not sure what LPGA COP states about mounting it length ways - personally, I'm really unsure it's a good idea.... doesn't fill me with comfort :-/

With the strapped type (that we have), thats a BIG no-no.
James - seeing as you only keep your cars 5 minutes, that may affect resale?

Possibly... although to be honest, Omegas are generally worth so little, it's almost not worth worrying about.. may as well have something that's more useful to me ? :-/

Don't forget that if you plan to use the car abroad you won't be able to use the chunnel with LPG.

James, I have a 400mm tank in the moot of my saloon and there's still a fair bit of space... You can always build a box to stand over it (once the LPGA cert is done) to enable stacking on top :y
Tunnie, the straps are only going to hold it the way it's meant to be mounted... Lengthways there is very little strength! LPGA regs don't actually specify which way it has to be mounted but I wouldn't do it again. I had noe lengthways in my Rangie but, unless it's a large vehicle hitting you up the rear end, it wouldn't be in the crumple zone :y

Don't know about that. What would happen if god forbid you were travelling down the motorway with the kids in the back, someone infront hits the brakes hard, so do you but the 7.5 tonne wagon behind you doesn't stop as quick as you. The back of the estate would crumple as its designed to do but I bet the tank wont :'(

Indeed it wont... Will take more than a little (or big) rear ender to crumple a LPG tank ::)
