After having his ST24 Mondeo stolen recently my brother-in-law urgently needed a replacement vehicle so when he came across a tidy 51 plate MG ZT he bought it with very little homework apart from seeing it was tidy and a good runner. It has done 78000 miles so age and mileage wise it is overdue a cambelt change. He got a few quotes and nearly fell over. The quotes range from £650 right up to £930. Makes my 3.2 Omega look cheap for cambelt change. :y

yup, major job on those, they have 2 drive belts!

As tunnie says, it's a major job, taking it anywhere isn't going to be cheap, being truthfully blunt.

As said, its a time consuming job to change both cambelts, so quotes are always high

There are actually 3 belts, it's just the fact that two of them come under the same part number.

Ironically the cheaper quote of £650 is an ex-MG/Rover Franchise garage that has done plenty of them so he should be in safe hands. I was going to put feelers out on the forum but if that is a fairish price he may as well go with that.

My lad has the 2.0 KV6 and needs his belts doing shortly. He's found a Rover specialist near to us but he's not expecting any change out of £600 ! Scary!

There are actually 3 belts, it's just the fact that two of them come under the same part number.
Correct Del Boy. I paid £700 to have mine done. The cambelt interval is 90000 miles.

the slaves die in the clutch system all the time too, which are in the box, leading to doing a cluctch whilest at it.
i love the look of the black and also the blue zt's but, never go ahead on them, even at £900 at the auction, as u never know if 1: head gasket is going to go 2: the gearbox (auto) is FKD 3: the clutch (manual) is FKD, and 4: the belts have or havent been done
otherthan those major concerns, they are lovely cars and cheap as chips at trade outlets.
i dont know anyone who will touch the belts for under £500 either.

I've got a MGZS180 2.5V6 with the same belt system. If you don't mind a run, the local ex-MG Rover garage near me will do them for £420..............
BUT, I'm in the Forest of Dean, a good run from Thame........

Not quite as bad as he thought then. He was told 8 years or 80000 whichever comes first. Thought I saw your name whilst trawling MG Owners Club for info. :y

Hmmm. Forest of Dean........Caravan break............fuel costs........it's a close one. :y :y
