this car
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p316/Gee-dub-ya/golf/DSC00727.jpg)
is now back with fingers21.
A few members, tunnie, jimbob and joshwyatt, helped me discover, that it had nearly 1/4 million miles on it, not the 94k as advertised. After a lot a digging and phones calls to garages and a previous owner, not to mention the MOT website i've ended up with a massive wad of evidence that it's been clocked. Unfortunately he contradicted himself so many times and told so many outright porkies. I had built up such an accurate time line of events and mileages he had no choice but to swap back our cars.
Future buyers beware.
Oh and the precats fubar , but he's lifted the emmissions bulb :y

Bloody Shocking! If he is a member here, his arse wants kicking as far out as it will go! >:(
I'm really glad you got a good resolution mate, the guys you got help from really are among the best & there are lots more just like them too :y
-
thanks for posting, and also thanks to Tunnie Josh and Jimbob for the heads up, i showed interest at the time. Saved me some agro there gents.
Glad your all sorted. And sorry the situation arose. Shame.
-
It would be so easy to reply with a negative post in this situation but at least there was help to hand to find out the truth.
Weldone to all those that helped you. :y

Reply #5 - 06. Feb 2010 at 11:57 no worries, i pulled the bulb until i get chance to move the sensors. Just out of interest, how much am i looking at for a new precat?

A point for us all to learn here.
Not allways the things advertised are what they seem. :'(
-
is this a matter for the Police though, seems as fraudulent as its possible to get re clocking?

Has had more removed than was left. :-/ >:(

To be honest i don't really deal with the police, i have my own way of dealing with situations that normally gets me the results i want.
I gave him my word that if i got my car back it wouldn't go any further,
he did state in feb
Mint condition with full service history and by the time its up for sale, will have 95k miles.
perhaps you could've ordered any mileage you wanted ;D

Glad you got it sorted, and good luck in your search for another car :y

Cheers mate, unfortunately i doubt it will be another omega as the wife really didn't get on with it in the few days we had it, lol

He was online about an hour before this thread started. Should be banned imo. I also think the post count limit for selling cars should be raise to at least 250. It would go someway to stopping this sort of thing.

Kind of agree but, TBH, his posts weren't all the "Hello" type posts or even drivel some of us post, they were genuine questions :-/ :-/
Be a shame to increase it further :-/
At least there was a happy(ish) ending :y :y

At most up to a 100 posts. But this is a rare situation.
There have been a few members recently argue the 50/250 rule but as soon as they achieve the 50 they post, then sell the car and fade away.
-
sorry guys, glad you got it sorted
BUT!!!
it will prob be sold to some unsuspecting person who is going to be ripped off and then say omegas are really bad cars?
so my vote goes to a anonymous call to either trading standards or dlva,
if this is allowed to just die with nothing done how many more cars will be clocked?
-
I think the police should be told, else some other sucker may get landed with it. It takes quite a bit of work to clock a modern car, so he obviously knows what he is doing.
How many others has he conned in the past, and will go on to con in the future ?.

A valid point. It has already come very close to ensnaring a few members on here...
At the very least the reg. number needs to be spread around pistonheads, Autobahnstormers, etc. But that won't come close to targeting all potential buyers. :-/
.. and next time the seller will make sure he's not left a trail of evidence behind him. >:(
If the call is anonymous it's got to be worth making to save someone else the heartache, surely?

he can't delete the trail of evidence it's all over the governments MOT website
-
I'm glad you got it all sorted in the end :y
I have thought about purchasing the vehicle from fingers21, to take parts from it then destroy it. What condition is the leather interior in? I imagine the seats are very worn?
I wouldn't want anyone else to fall foul of this veicle again. I believe when it was sold on ebay with 226k miles it went for £1300 in Dec 2009, so now the mileage is unknown it's not worth much at all. I could buy it, take parts from it then ensure it is destroyed.

mate it is immaculate, it's in mint condition for 94k let alone way over 200k, thats why i wasn't suspicious at the time.
it was also sold for £1500 in oct 2008 with around 210k ;)
it also never had a new engine and clocks at the time that's written in the service book(208K), thats been added at a later date by someone. I've had this confirmed by the owner at the time and the servicing garage.
At the end of the day i'm not saying that fingers clocked it, but he 100% knew there were issues that should've been disclosed.

I beg to disagree.
I recently purchased a Vectra from auction to replace my Mv6, the beige interior in the Vectra was filthy, and after spending a day with the Vax, it was decided the best course of action would be to change the whole interior because it was still unacceptable. I managed to find an SRi spec Vectra which had a dark interior and 1/2 'leather' seats, I also took the silver heater/stereo surround and the matching instrument binnacle.
After I had swapped everything over I noticed that the mileage on my 'auction bargain' had gone from 73k upto nearly 150k.

or just buy a set of clocks off ebay with the mileage you want

thats the thing, weather he clocked it or not, he knew the problem, and should have done as dub did and get his cash back from his seller, one way or an other. Although i get the impression from some of the pm's i had that this may not have been possible for some reason.
The clocker should be found imo. if possible.

It's funny you should say that, guess where the original set of clocks from my car is right now.
Do facelift Omegas have digital odometers, or are they mechanical like in my pre f/l Mv6?

Sorry I meant it takes technology to re-write the earom or what ever is used to store mileage.

I had a sniff at this car when looking for a car, was warned off by a couple of members, thankfully... :y
How could he sell his car on here when I can't put a car on for sale.........

No discussion of the tools to do 'mileage correction' here. Come on guys, you know the score ;)

mate, theres too many things wrong to get to the bottom of this.
he advertised it with FSH in feb, then says he couldn't get it from the previous owner as he wouldn't send it on. It was already with the car as i found it
he said he owned it since early 08. I've spoke to the chap that actually did and he checked his accounts for me and he paid the cheque in from the sale oct 08, he'd owned it from 2005 with 10k
he then said he owned it from nov 08 when confronted with the above. that means he mot'd it in sep 09 with 232k on it
he posted in jan'10 i've just bought a 3.2 elite today and the satnav disc is stuck
that contradicts the above 2 posts
he's apparently posted mots and bills that prove it's on 94K. can't see them turning up.
the chap that put all the miles on it was the second owner, that means it's had a further 5 since oct 08, anything could've happened to it to be honest.
-
I've spoke to the chap that actually did and he checked his accounts for me and he paid the cheque in from the sale oct 08, he'd owned it from 2005 with 10k
so previous owner did 230k in 3yrs :o. Wow.
-
I would have thought that the simplest course of action to take is to present all the available evidence to the appropriate DVLA office and let them take it from there.
I would also suggest that the following is inappropriate for publication on a public forum. :y
To be honest i don't really deal with the police, i have my own way of dealing with situations that normally gets me the results i want.

Not that unlkely.... I used to do a minimum of 2k/week a few years back. MDTM must/did clock up some miles too.
But... It is a lot of miles to be doing, especially as I expect the servicing was to Vx schedule and not "Good Practice" timescales ::)

not quite, he had it from 10k, till 208k, he owns a chauffeur firm, really nice chap, maintained it regardless of cost.

A 'Transporter' a good car for the job.... :y

i see your point, but its a trail the police should be given the chance to follow. But as you've given your word and money back, you've suffered enough and had enough agro....fact remains though, fingers will try to sell it again, and will continue to do so until someone gets shafted. Surely?

thats all down to one's interpretation of what i said.
i never said i hung him off a motorway bridge with bamboo shoots under his nails , lol
i just formed a very clear cut case of what was wrong and what i found out,and what was required to rectify it, this got the desired result without waiting a long time for the authorities or British judicial system. :)

If the police are involved the car may well be confiscated then crushed

still dont sort rhe fact that OOF knows there is a heavily clocked
motor out there being offered for sale, it really shouldnt be left like that? some poor m.o.p will buy it prob join OOF then what? do we tell him he has a clocked car we knew of?
this is going to be a right can of works i think!
-
I guess it is down to Gee-Dub-Ya to do the reporting as the directly influenced party, AFAIK, he is the only one with contact details, address etc.
Im sure if anyone sees it advertised for sale elsewhere, contacting those responsible for that sales arena would be a good move :y
I don't think there is any more we can do :-/
-
HPI have just been given the mot ref to check it out for themselves and they will update the national mileage register.
that will then show on mycarchack and hpi
as it stood there was NO mileage data at all on the national register till this morning.
thats how important it is that you fill in the mileage on logbooks when you sell the car.
-

Don't really see you can do much more than that without going down the police route :y :y
Should be enough to protect anyone who makes a sensible, informed purchase ;) ;)
-
I think the relevant people should be told. Just think how you felt when you found out the car had been clocked. If someone is willing to sell a car that has been knowingly clocked then I would think that same person would be willing to clock a car and who knows how many cars have been done before. The person is a scrote and needs dealing with. If there's one thing I can't stand, its scrotes screwing people out of hard earned money >:(
-
oh dear
http://www.swapz.co.uk/swapz/1317641/53_plate_omega_elite_rare_one_/
Before we go any further, this car has FULL service history upto 202k, then had a brand new engine, box and running gear fitted along with new clocks, showing 94k again with service history. This car runs like a new car and you really shouldn't let this put you off!
-
From what I have seen, that is at least a degree more honesty than has been shown here.
-

Brand new engine, box and running gear? Hardly..
Jon
-
From what I have seen, that is at least a degree more honesty than has been shown here.
there is nothing honest about it at all, it was on ebay in dec 09 with 226k, it didn't have new engine then. someone has written in the service book it had new clocks and engine above the service stamp for 208k in jun 08.
i've spoken to the owner and the servicing garage at the time it didn't have either, and he owned it up till oct 08.
if it had new clocks then it wouldn't have been mot'd with 223k in sep 09
-
Youve missed my point....It was being sold as a 94k mile example here with no mention of previous engine, clocks etc
I am aware the sums dont appear to add up from what Ive seen.
-

ok, it's a very very slightly more honest listing then
anyone got a swapz account that could ask some Q's about the engine swap, when it happened etc
-
Advertising a car as having an engine, gearbox and running gear that has only done 30 or 40 K is still despicable, he's just preying on the inexperienced buyer who would never check the details, who would probably get stuck with the car when selling it on
Jon

Scary stuff.
This is a bit like walking down a street and ignoring a mugging rather than getting involved.
Someone needs to do something. Please.

I do feel for the guy... He may have been unaware in the first instance but he's not being honest now.
TBH, the only thing I fully trust when looking at a car is my knowledge, experience and gut.
With one clear exception.... Josh! His descriptions are A1 and he has already proven that any car he has sold will be as he describes, even going out of his way (and out of pocket) when he had a car go wrong :y
I'm sure there are plenty of other good sellers, Roger Budden is highly respected (but then he should be at those prices! :o ;D), but Josh has proven himself to me. I'm sure Del is very honest when he sells his cars but I've never looked at any of his proper ads ;) ;)

IMHO, as he is now totally aware of the car in all its respects of mileage, condition, engine, etc etc he is KNOWINGLY trying to sell the car again in several different places, with differing descriptions of it. In my mind then, he is also KNOWINGLY trying to decieve a potential buyer.
That makes him a fraudulent seller at the very least, a crook maybe, and not an honest person definately.

only just spotted this thread, glad its all sorted :y
When it was listed for second time, i did PM all those interested to give a heads up, after the thread was locked i assumed that was it.
Just out of interest how recently did you buy it? That thread had been locked for a while.
Maybe we should look at Car Sale adds being auto deleted after certain time period? :-/
