Title: Hand throttle

I am having an operation on my right foot in the near future, any ideas about the above please?

Nothing is impossible, as you know.

A DBW car like yours may/may not have additional complications whilst an old fashioned cable operation can be easily duplicated.

Would also suggest that you would be embarking on VERY thin ice as regards modifications, insurance, and whether qualified to adapt, as well as engineers report costs etc etc.

Would be easier to get the foot/ankle better!

Indeed, I imagine you'd need to have it converted by a specialist company in order to be able to get insurance on it (which I also imagine would need to be from a specialist) - as well as possibly registering with the DVLA if you're driving with a known impediment..

Left foot braking will be OK

Will probably just cut some thick card to protect the pin sticking out (been told about 10mm stick out) of my toe

Oddly enough I recently had a minor op on my right foot big toe; I was advised by the doc not to drive while it was numb from the local as my insurance would be void.

Not sure what the deal is with driving when you can't wear regular shoes (AFAIK it's not illegal to drive barefoot, after all) .. but I suspect if you did hit someone and they found you weren't able to exert normal braking pressure with your right foot, you could be in trouble..

Perhaps you shouldn't be driving until doctors give you the go ahead. You will find your insurance is invalid otherwise.

dont know about the insurance tricks but after some practice you can use that..

I had a friend who was disabled.. use this one for long time.. after he prepared an apparatus very similiar..  it was connected to the steering column from the middle so was fixed..and easy to use..

my father-in-law is disabled & has a left foot throttle. 2 throttles on the car but it's only possible use 1 at a time.

I remember a mate of mine making up a set of temporary hand controls so he could test drive cars he was thinking of buying but as his licence states "vehicles fitted with hand controls only" I expect he would have had more chance of getting away with it.

Bear in mind you will meed to inform both your insurance and the DVLA to remain legal so for a short term disability it's not worth doing.
