Title: what nice people at Halfords Bicester
Post by: tunnie on 03 July 2007, 13:43:31
Went in the above Halfords today, sheared off the T-45 socket when doing the Senator water pump. Got that replaced under warranty no problems!  :D

Whilst waiting, big sign at the desk said: 'In the motor trade?' 'Get Halfords Trade Card', i asked about getting a card. The reply came back

'are you in the trade Sir?'

I replyed 'well i have this' >> hands over a Vauxhall Trade Club Card

'no problem Sir, i'll get the form filled out for you'  :D

I did not have to fill in anything, he done it all for me, so now i have a Trade Card for Halfords!  :D

They dont employ 'people' at my local Halfords, only some sort of lowely primate barely capable of speach the likes of which I last saw at Twycross zoo........you know the type..

Me: I'm after a thermostat for a 2.5V6 X25XE 2000 model year Omega

Them: There you go

Me: Thats for a 2.0 or 1.8 16V power plant 4 cylinder and wont ever fit the V6 power plant.

Them: Thats the one the system says is correct for your car

Me: Well your system, is wrong...

Them: Somebody must have changed your car because the system says its this one

Me: I know these power plants pretty well.....and that wont fit.

An so its goes on....

I split the 19mm socket from my 1/2" Halfords set on a wishbone pinch bolt.
Its a 'Life Time Warranty' set, allbeit >10 years old.    I don't really want money back on the whole set - do you think they would replace the individual socket?  or even better give me a shiny new set..

Yep life time means lifetime, I did a single replacement today on a socket. I have the 150 piece professional set, as mentioned before i snapped the T-45 socket, took just the socket back. Said, look i broke this one. She instantly went and got me a replacement!

As soon as you mention Halfords Professional, they should swap like for like.  :y

I would love to have seen the expression on your face as some uneducated semi literate gimp tried to tell you that, in effect, you don't know what you're talking about!  ;D ;D

I'll give it a try.   I think my set pre dates the Professional range but it clearly says lifetime warranty on it (as long as there is no small print insisting on still having the receipt..).    To be fair , I don't blame the socket for splitting - I was leaning on it with all my not inconsiderable weight and on a longer bar than the ratchet.  Ended up buying a set of MM hardened sockets.

I did not show a receipt or anything, just the damaged socket  :y

That's absolutely correct.  If you look up 2.5 Omega in the matrix guide they have along the shelves it will direct you to a box that looks about the right size, and contains.......  a 2.0 thermostat.   So at least they are consistent ;)
