Title: Renault Megane
Post by: david036 on 27 September 2010, 19:54:29
Have a suspected cam belt snap.  Is likely to have done valve damage or can this engine get away with just replacing the belt? Its a 1.6 16v Thanks

Defo, modern high compression multi valve engines and a snapped belt equals bent bits!

Dependant on the year it's possibly cheaper to source a 2nd hand head and just do a head swop on it with a new timing belt kit.

Just done that with an old 406 16v, got a s/hand head for a ton. Much cheaper than buying 16valves and the labour of changing them all :y

Edit, not seen a 16v Renault engine survive the belt breaking without damage :-/
