about four to five hours of swearing if your doing it on the drive, pig of a job.
What's happened is the is a servo on the back of the block under the inlet manifold. This in turn is connected to the inlet manifold and controls the in let flaps in the manifold.
One of three things will have happened. The first is the connecting rod may have come off, if you can get your hand to it you might be able to sanp it back on.
Second is the servo motor has packed it, replacement
Third and most common is the manifold flaps have gummed up, this will cause them to seize which then overloads the servo and then breaks the linkage under the manifold. If this has happened then its a complete replacemant of the inlet manifold and servo unit
If your engine is the Z19DTH then the manifold is £182.70, Servo is £139.40 and link rod £6.03 all + VAT
Cheers
Andy

I suspect before doing anything you disconnect the Mass Air Flow sensor and see if it makes a difference - if the problem ceases then the MAF needs to be cleaned. But be careful in messing with the sensor itself as it may get damaged - so just disconnect first and see if problem stops and report back .

Not classic swirl flap symptoms though, they normaly cause low power not rough running.
Easy to check, look at the link rods on the top of the inlet manifold to make sure none are detached.
I would, as a matter of course, clean the EGR valve and solenoid assembly (easy to do) and clean the inlet pressure sensor as a first course of action.

Thanks for replies,he took his Vectra out this afternoon stopped after 2 miles to go to the shop, came out and wouldn't start!,went over,no eml or any other light displayed and no codes stored, once i got it running re-read and still no codes,Mark is this a is this a sign of EGR? Also read that these had a problem with the third injector wiring, could that also cause it to not start, not so sure myself.Had a look at the swirl valve and rod,all looks good apart from a bit of gunge around number 4...Many thanks..Wayne
