How do you fit them? the instructions are not very clear, but do say that you put them behind the wheel, is there a break to enable this? :-?
I dare not take them out of the container or I will never get them back again ::) ::) ::)
-
I had a play with mine... Take them out of the box and make sure they aren't tangled ;) ;)
I found the pictures on the box more use than the instructions :y
-
There will be. Lay them out flat and drive onto them then join up with whatever fixing device there is.
-
what type did you get??
-
practice in a warm garage.. if you wont be able to (I wasnt :-[) no chance in snow!

I took my spare wheel into the nice warm garage :y
I then practised fitting them. Within 5 minutes it was done.
I agree entirely with Lazydocker, the picture is the best way to understand how to fit them.
I would attach a picture, however I can't understand the instructions ::) ::)

I was at tyre fitter getting 2 new boots yesterday when a muppet came in to ask the fitters to check to se if he had fitted the snow chains correctly as he kept slipping.
Much to our horror he had bought which can only be described as a fishermans net with bungee cord and they were shredded.
The chap had also wrecked both C.V boots and burst a flexi.
I felt sorry for the now tyre fitter/mechanic who had to untangle/cut them off.

Practice...practice.....practice! ;)
Most can be fitted easily, after laying-out/untangling first.
The swaged cable joint-ends usually go at the top-inner of the tyre`s shoulder (slide the straightened chain-set, in from the rear of the car and then reaching each hand around the side of the tyre and picking up an end of the cable).....the chains and outboard securing band/link are pulled outwards (around the tread/outer-side-wall), the outer ring joined (usually with a link) and adjusted until the set is sitting evenly and tightly: some tension using a rubber-link, coil-spring or (like mine) a ratchet to tighten.....there`s usually no need to jack or rotate the wheel when installing; although sometimes when removing the set, the joint is in the wrong spot and you may need to move the car a bit to reposition it at the top of the wheel for easy undoing.
It really is easy....once you`ve managed to do it properly (twice) you`ll wonder why it ever seemed tricky before! :y
I can fit mine in two minutes per wheel, whilst in deep snow and lit just by flashlight; but, the first couple times of use took a fair-bit longer.
You`ll be amazed at where you can go (even on sheet ice hills) with chains....enjoy. 8-)

Also it is advisable to keep under 30mph when using snow chains. Unless you have bought the very expensive Thule's for £371 :o :o :o

Absolutely. In fact, I'd say if you can get anywhere near that speed you need to pull over and remove them. If they break and start flailing around they will do plenty of damage at that speed.
I view them as something to get out of the boot when you get stuck, and put away again as soon as you are back on the move.

CEM......Brilliant :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y
Thank you all for your comments, if it warms up I may have a play at the weekend, assuming I do not have to find out the hard way first ::) ::)
Me thoughts on them are indeed simply a 'get me out' tool to be removed once on my way, having stopped the car first ;D ;D

Doubtful... I reckon we're in for another bout in the new year ;) Certainly here in East Anglia we normally get it around February time. We got off lightly this time around but I'm fully expecting to get hit hard in the New Year ;)
Hopefully by then my back will be better and I can go out and play in it ;D ;D ::) ::)

I admire your persistence Cem ;D
My BMW will be needing new tyres in about 9 months. I will then buy winter tyres and in the spring of 2012 I will buy normal tyres. Hopefully I can swap them for the following 3/4 years :y :y :) :)
For this winter I will stick with my Omega automatic, which works really well using the 'snow' button.

Just seen this variant of the snow chain...
Looks pretty cool...
