Title: Heated Steering Wheel
Post by: waspy on 12 December 2010, 21:39:23
I have a question that maybe someone on here may be able to answer.
Do any of the higher end marques have heated steering wheels?
Now imo that would be a fatastic idea that all manufacturers should add to their vehicles :y

I had a 2005 '55' Range Rover TD6 Vogue. That had a heated steering wheel, the button for it was on the steering wheel. It was ok, I tried it once and never used it again.

heard many moons ago (when the new omega was coming out 'soon', ie: 2004ish) it would have photo-chromic glass, which tinted at the flick of a switch, and heated steering wheel.

dont know when GM decided not to replace the omega (no one say to me the word 'signum', please) but clearly they never did, but how far on in the design phase did it get? and was a heated wheel just  bit of car-mag fabrication?

I think its a great idea, but dont know of its existence on many production cars. They have been on about it for several years, though. I think its on the same  to-do list as self-driving cars, plastic engines (yes!), and the fully-recycled car.

The odd top-spec Jag, Lexus, Merc, etc etc. have them, I think  :y :y

If i had a heated steering wheel, my hands wouldnt be soo cold, and I could have done.

Oh, irony is a cruel mistress.

Range Rovers have it, the RR got it because of the BMW 7 series. Volkswagen touareg's, Porsche Cayenne's a few Audi's have it too I think.

Working for Enterprise Rent A Car I only know of one car that has it and this may surprise you, its the Vauxhall Corsa.

They have been around a while now so they come with heated seats, cruise, aircon and trip computer, so more people buy them, still not a patch on the Fiesta to drive though.

We have all manner of Land Rovers, Jags, BM's and Mercs and non of them have it (not saying they cant have it, just saying ours havent)

Optional extra on all jags and Range rovers.  Unless you have an open cab then there is not much use.  It's a gimmick :y

I'm so glad somebody said this. What next, a pre-heated button so you don't get your lickle pinkies cold when you have to press it to heat up the wheel??  :-X

There was me thinking it was a bit limp-wristed going out in a car with a roof yesterday. Sadly, Mrs. KW wasn't up for the "winter Westfield" experience. :(

And no, there wasn't any ice. ::)

yes glycerine, fat, vaseline they all work and stop you tearing your seals apart, and over here at the moment they are offering heated steering wheels on all new opels.
